- The Scene:
- King River Ranch is a true Texas experience deep within its very heart, quite literally. Located in the hometown of President Lyndon B. Johnson, two miles from the post office where he was inagurated and six miles from his Texas White House, the very land upon which King River Ranch is built has been continuously settled by generations of Comanche people dating back over a millenium, then settled by descendants of the Texas Rangers. And they chose this site for a reason. Surrounded by thousands of acres of uninterrupted rolling hills and longhorns, the ranch still lies only 1.8 miles from the famous 290 Wine Trail featuring approximately fifty cutting-edge wineries within minutes from us. Our gates are directly on the Pedernales River welcoming our guests with a charming winding driveway taking them past expansive lawns, perfectly manicured grounds, windmills, magnificent oak trees, and of course, the iconic river that feeds Lake Travis. 25 acres of incredibly diverse and picture-perfect vistas greets you in every direction. On one side of the road, the sparkling river straddles a quarter mile of the property. On the other, the King Barn sits majestically over a half-acre tranquil Tom Sawyer'esque fishing pond with boat dock. Further down the drive, the River Cottage and Lodge 39 are unparelled private wedding party quarters with direct access to the 2,600 sq. ft. River Terrace, built into the dramatic rocky banks of the Pedernales River Valley. On the other side of the cottages, an expansive pasture filled with horses, miniature donkeys and St. Croix sheep shelters the heart of King River Ranch, our beloved animals.
