The scene:
Since the turn of the century, The Jekyll Island Club Resort has been heralded as one of America’s most desirable, exclusive getaways to meet and retreat, and is a coastal Georgia conference hotel like no other. It was here that exclusive retreats among America’s titans of industry, including J.P. Morgan, Vanderbilt, and Pulitzer, shaped our nation's history. With 157 guestrooms in four historic buildings along with 40 oceanfront suites at Jekyll Ocean Club, over 15,000 square feet of flexible, distinguished meeting space, and several more outdoors, including lush gardens, picturesque courtyards, and oceanfront venues, the Jekyll Island Club Resorts is an ideal venue for corporate meetings, conferences, retreats, team building, and weddings.
Design:
In 1886, Jekyll Island was purchased to become an exclusive winter retreat, known as the Jekyll Island Club. The Jekyll Island Club was a private club on Jekyll Island, on Georgia's Atlantic coast. It was founded in 1886 when members of an incorporated hunting and recreational club purchased the island for $125,000 from John Eugene du Bignon. The original design of the Jekyll Island Clubhouse, with its signature turret, was completed in January 1888 in a Queen Anne style. It soon became recognized as “the richest, most inaccessible club in the world.” Club members included such notable figures as J.P. Morgan, Joseph Pulitzer, William K. Vanderbilt, and Marshall Field.

The adjoining Federal Reserve and Aldrich Rooms boast a decorative motif in the mantelpieces that emulates the Lincoln commemorative wreath. A wreath of this design embellished Lincoln’s casket in 1865. Thereafter, this motif became fashionable in mantel decoration.

The Pulitzer Room, adjacent to the Alexander Room, was formerly the main parlor. On the wall opposite the fireplace is a painting by G. Steele of the “Wanderer,” the last ship to bring a significant cargo of slaves to the United States (1858).

Just off the Pulitzer Room is the Aspinwall Room, named after the first president of the Club, Lloyd Aspinwall (1888). It was originally an open porch and a popular place to watch the yachts arrive. This room was enclosed for year-round use after the Club opened.

Sans Souci,” the name of which means ‘without care,’ was built in 1896. This six-unit apartment building is considered to be one of the first condominiums built in this country. The floors, leaded glass, stairway and skylight are original.

Edwin Gould, the son-in-law of the first owners of the cottage known today as Cherokee, was in large measure responsible for the building of this Italian Renaissance residence. He purchased lot 32 from the estate of Walter Gurnee and submitted plans to build a two-story house on it for his in-laws, Dr. George F. Shrady and his wife, Hester. The cottage, which originally contained twenty rooms and six baths, was constructed in 1904.

Built in 1917 by Richard Teller Crane Jr., Crane Cottage is the most expensive house to ever be constructed during the club era. Completed in 1917, the home sprawled over two lots and originally featured 22 bedrooms and 17 bathrooms. The Italian Renaissance home was valued at $50,000, twice as much as any other cottage on Jekyll at the time.
Standout venue features:
Year-Round Swimming
Located near the river’s edge, the Resort pool is ideal for swimmers and loungers alike. With plenty of sunshine, the pool is open year round, complemented by The Pool House, open seasonally. The Jekyll Ocean Club also offers an oceanfront, year-round pool, that is accompanied by a hot tub.

Firepits
Enjoy an evening spent by the fire roasting marshmallows with our s'mores offerings! Grab a s'mores kit at The Pool House or the Jekyll Ocean Club and relax by their outdoor firepits.

Croquet Lawn
Partake in a favorite pastime of 19th-century guests on our Croquet Lawn, located at the center of the Resort. Enjoy a change-of-pace on the great lawn. If wickets, stakes and mallets are your game, you’ll feel right at home, or maybe you prefer to sit back and watch our pros, clad in white.

The Great Outdoors
We take cues from our environment: unspoiled, preserved, and natural. We take great pride in our Resort Grounds, from the manicured lawns and sunken gardens to our preservation of history. Our natural surroundings, with acres of forest lands, marshes and rivers, and of course the vast expanse of ocean and beaches just beyond—beg to be explored.

Resort Verandas
The Clubhouse affords Resort guests spectacular verandas with views of the Croquet Lawn ideal for spectators, the Resort Pool and Riverfront ideal for sunset viewing. Take a seat in our rocking chairs and admire the surroundings or bring a book and enjoy a quiet place to read.

New Offerings
Guests of Jekyll Island Club Resort enjoy access to Jekyll Ocean Club, including Club pool and beach access, preferred seating at Corsair, and complimentary transportation to the Ocean Club and back, throughout the day.
Extra perks:
Basic tables, chairs, linens and dinnerware are included with venue rentals, along with the set-up and clean-up from our staff.
