Alila means “surprise” in Sanskrit, which describes the refreshing character of its properties, found everywhere from the mountains of Oman to the cliffsides of California. At Alila Seminyak, this ethos is delivered from the moment you arrive inside the property’s soaring open air lobby which is filled with lush wall-plants and a warm sea breeze thanks to the nearby waves. With accommodations and experiences fitting all types of travelers from honeymooners to families to groups visiting "just because," no visitor is left unattended to at Alila.
Read on to discover why this beachfront hotel is one of the most sumptuous spots to rest your head in Seminyak.
Alila Seminyak is a showcase for environmentally sustainable architecture, with an open-air design that keeps lighting and cooling needs to a minimum. The resort prides itself on meeting stringent eco-friendly standards including using local and recycled materials throughout the property. The best part? The whitewashed walls, beige hardwood seating, hanging plants, and crisscross of open-air corridors will make you feel as if you're staying in a lush outdoor garden on the beach.
Alila Seminyak is located less than 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International airport inside Seminyak, one of Bali’s most popular beach resort areas. This area attracts tourists from around the world thanks to its cool cafes, slick bars, and incredible shopping. Basically what that means is that it can get kind of hectic in Seminyak at moments, which means retreating to Alila, which is tucked away on the beach promises a much-needed temple of tranquility with access to the action within walking distance.
It’s all about sleek, pared-back elegance here. Just like the social spaces, rooms are designed with a clean, crisp aesthetic in mind. Housed in four-story blocks, the resort comprises eight types of guest accommodations ranging in size from 150 to 580 square feet, as well as an over 2,000 square-foot penthouse featuring its own infinity lap pool. Our favorite rooms are the Ocean Suites, which feature wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the beach and the property’s multiple infinity pools with room for up to four people each.
Guests can take their pick from any of the five gorgeous blue infinity pools on property, which range from family-friendly to adult-only options. Head to the pool near Alila’s Beach Bar, to soak and watch the sunset while you enjoy a refreshing aperitif. After drinks, grab dinner at Seasalt, (inspired by Bali’s locally-harvested sea salts), to enjoy a selection of Japanese-inspired freshly-caught seafood dishes such as spicy Barramundi with ginger flower and butterfish roasted in miso honey.
