This fourth-generation family-run luxury hotel in South Tyrol is surrounded by alps, lakes and ancient villages. The treehouses and chalets overlooking it all make this spot utterly birthday bucket list worthy. For those who appreciate getting up-close with nature by day and relaxing in water or beside fire by evening, San Luis Hotel is your (berry-filled) birthday jam.

Take your birthday wish in the form of a treehouse or a chalet for your stay at San Luis. The treehouses here are far from the rustic, made-by-Dad treehouses of your youth and are instead like little lofts on stilts. Each has a wraparound balcony and huge windowed walls so you can soak up the best views around. For those wanting lakefront views, check out the chalets that range in size from perfect for solo travelers and couples to fit for a small b-day celebrating crew.

Warm your bones beside the fire in the relaxation zones of the central hub or right beside the pool. And speaking of the pool, this expanse of water goes from inside a glass-walled barn structure to a wide-open heated outdoor pool overlooking a small lake. For the ultimate in birthday-worthy hydro luxury, there’s a Jacuzzi in the middle of the lake and a whole series of spa areas to choose from. Whether you’re into massages with soothing essential oils or sauna time, forest therapy and steam baths, there’s no shortage of methods to ease you into relaxation and rejuvenation.

It’s 200 days of sunshine at this Avelengo/Hafling destination. San Luis Hotel is located in South Tyrol, just at the foot of the Texel Group Mountains. Surrounded by orchards, fields of berries and spices, and a protected reserve of alpine park, this is one of those places where you’ll want to take your time to slowly explore the terrain. In the warmer months, you can explore on foot or horseback. And if you’re a winter babe, the snowy months bring skiing, ice-climbing and snowshoeing.

Dining at San Luis is a whole birthday-worthy treat in itself. You’ll start the day with a breakfast of homemade breads and cakes, spreads, fresh milk and salami delivered to your door. From there, you can decide where you’ll take lunch and dinner, and you can expect a meal that reflects the local fare and utilizes the best of locally grown and produced goods. If there’s a berry on any plate, you can bet it was harvested right here at the property. So, here’s to a birthday filled with delicious eats and beautiful views.
