The spirit of New Zealand lives in the heart and mouths of those who come to dine and celebrate at this handsome Nolita eatery. Chef Matt Lambert opened The Musket Room in May 2013, and for the last few years has been wowing guests with authentic-yet-inventive cuisine from his native land.
The Scoop
So-named to evoke an era in New Zealand “when adventure and discovery blossomed,” this space was the ideal choice for one couple to start their adventure as husband and wife, and Isabelle Selby was the lucky one to photograph the intimate celebration.
A New York Brunch Wedding
Jove Meyer Events says: “The couple didn't want your typical wedding experience, but they did want an opportunity to celebrate with close friends and family. The Musket Room provided the perfect spot for an intimate and low-key reception—not to mention, a classic NYC Sunday brunch experience.”
What they got was a flawlessly executed dining experience where the chef himself ensured the mimosas and bloody marys flowed endlessly!
Brunch, bloody mary's and a beautiful bride in the heart of New York City. Does it get any better?
The Cuisine
The food is the star here (literally, the restaurant earned a Michelin star after being open just four months—a record!). Lambert creates six and tencourse seasonal tasting menus that include tantalizing classics like New Zealand red deer with flavors of gin, along with more surprising offerings like tofu gnocchi with chickpea, spring onion and macadamia.
Every plate is a work of art, and as beautiful to look at as it is delicious.
Oh, and did we mention they employ a full-time pastry chef who creates the most amazing and special desserts? Excuse us while we salivate over the carrot cake with curd and chai – devine!
The Space
The restaurant’s award-winning design is the perfect complement to its mouth-watering meals.
Simple, contemporary fixtures are exquisitely juxtaposed to rustic lime-washed brick walls and a stately 20-foot-long walnut timber bar. Floral designer Blush Designs added small green and white arrangments in clear containers to blend into the blue hues and fun design of the venue setting.
“We love a space whose character speaks for itself, and that is what The Musket Room provides. The beautiful wood and brick coloring and texture are a fantastic backdrop to any event. As a result, we kept the floral design very natural, sweet and simple to accent the gorgeous nature of the space.” - Jove Meyer Events
A second, more private dining room offers a lovely view of the outdoor garden where Lambert grows many of the herbs and vegetables used in his dishes.
The team at Jove Meyer Events raved about the vegetable garden. "The outside vegetable garden is such a sweet and unique aspect to the venue that we absolutely loved! Not only is it incredibly sweet but it solidifies the fresh, straight from the garden impression of the dishes!"
Celebrating at The Musket Room
Jove Meyer Events says: “The events manager was incredibly helpful throughout the planning process, and the entire event staff had such a relaxed-yet-attentive attitude on the day of. They took care of everything.”
Dining at The Musket Room is an experience in itself, which means any celebration here will be extraordinary. It’s ideal for a bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, birthday party, small wedding reception, or any intimate gathering.
They are open nightly to the public and for private events during non-business hours.
