Rooftop Airstream Trailer Park:
There’s nothing ordinary about going all the way to the United States of America to source seven vintage Airstream trailers, and then hauling them back across the Atlantic and hoisting them onto the roof of an urban hotel. Then again, there’s nothing ordinary about the Grand Daddy. Take the Daddy’s vintage elevator to our rooftop location in famous Long Street and soak in the alluring outline of Table Mountain as reflected in the polished aluminium of one of our seven trailers. The seven recently renovated trailers, complete with US Postal Service mailboxes, all have their own individual decor and style, and collectively they reflect the “South African road trip”. Drawing inspiration from around Mzansi, our trailers give you a chance to experience different parts of our beautiful country, right here on the roof … and they may even inspire you to go and visit these places for real! Yep, those unmistakably South African vistas have climbed right into the trailers. Each one is as unique as the South African landscape that it encapsulates and each has a story to share. Airstream trailers are incredible works of craftsmanship and their classic shape is unforgettable. Each Airstream trailer has a queen-size bed, wet room with a shower, and modern comforts like TV, aircon and fridges. Our trailer suite called Winelands is the largest of the Airstream trailers and has an open-plan bedroom with a big lounge area.

Venue Features
The Scene:
The Mother City’s most original, convenient and fun place to stay! By day or by night, the legendary, luxurious Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel bustles with an energy that is quintessentially Cape Town.
Design:
Chic, smooth and with a twist at the end, like Cape Town herself, the Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel’s rooms and suites are subtle, stylish and shimmering. With its central location in a beautiful city, the Grand Daddy is the ideal venue for making a serious impression, be it at meetings, product launches, conferences or weddings.
Standout Venue Features:
Our seven Airstream trailers were shipped in from the United States of America.
The original architect of the Grand Daddy hotel building on 38 Long Street was Mello Gerardus Damstra, a Dutchman who came to the Cape around 1895, according to the South African Heritage Resource Agency.
The vintage elevator at the Grand Daddy is the oldest operational elevator in Cape Town.
The Grand Daddy’s Airstream rooftop trailer park is legendary. The seven glinting, individually themed trailers on our rooftop take visitors on a fanciful and fuss-free journey.
You may or may not have seen the little golden statuette of a dog at the Daddy. His name is Leon and he’s the best mascot any hotel could ask for – purveyor of great times and awesome service.
The Grand Daddy building was built in1874 and its doors opened in 1895 as Hotel Metropole.
