Venue Setting

Hidden in one of the most elegant locations in South London and set in surprisingly rural parkland is the Horniman Conservatory.

This elegant, Grade II Listed Victorian Conservatory stands within a stylish terrace allowing guests to enjoy views across the award winning gardens. This beautiful structure is one of the very few glass houses available for private hire, and is truly breathtaking, requiring very little decoration to enhance its elegant lines.

Licensed for Wedding Ceremonies for up to 120 guests this idyllic and truly romantic space features prominently in the Wedding Dreams of many couples, and we are always delighted to help make those dreams a reality.

The conservatory can sit up to 120 guests for a ceremony or wedding breakfast, whilst the addition of a marquee allows up to 30 additional evening guests.

Also within the 16 1/2 acres of award winning gardens you will find the recently built Horniman Pavilion & the wonderful Victorian Grade II Listed Bandstand. Both these beautiful and unique venues enjoy outstanding views across London & are licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies.

The newly renovated Bandstand is perfect for small, intimate ceremonies from as few as 4 guests up to a maximum of 50. It can also be used for photographs or a drinks reception following your vows in the Pavilion or Conservatory. Restored to its original Victorian elegance, it offers a picturesque snap-shot of a bygone era, with stunning views across the surrounding gardens and beyond to the horizon and the impressive landmarks of central London.

The Horniman Pavilion is an idyllic yet modern venue for a wedding or civil partnership ceremony for up to 60 guests. It is also the perfect venue for a private party. Built in 2011 as the final part of the £2.3m garden renovation project it is a bright and airy space with floor to ceiling windows which fold back across the front of the building to give full access to a large open deck overlooking the London skyline.

These spaces can all be hired individually or to be used in conjunction with each other.

When hiring the venue we then provide costs for all additional costs associated with your day - this includes not just food and beverages but all all hire equipment, including a temporary onsite kitchen erected especially for each event, all staff, all delivery and collection fees. The Venue price range shown above allows for all these additional costs (which range greatly depending on which of the 3 spaces within the grounds you are hiring). The price per head is based on food only, which is not an accurate reflection of the total costs. It is essential to contact Suzanne James for full cost details.

Whether you are planning a conference, special celebration, or corporate away day, the Horniman Museum and Gardens could be the ideal venue for you.

We have three unique spaces available for event hire.

The Conservatory:

This elegant Victorian Conservatory stands within a stylish terrace and allows guests to enjoy views across the award winning gardens. The Grade II listed cast iron Conservatory was originally built in the Horniman family house in Coombe Cliff, Croydon in 1894. By 1982 it had fallen into disrepair and, with the help of English Heritage, it was dismantled and beautifully restored and reopened in 1988. It is now used for performances and parties and is licensed for civil ceremonies.

The Pavilion:

Set within the Horniman Gardens the Pavilion is an idyllic yet modern venue.  Built in 2011 as the final part of the £2.3m garden renovation project, it is a bright and airy space with floor to ceiling windows which fold back across the front of the building to give full access to a large open deck overlooking the London skyline and much of the Horniman's beautiful award-winning 16½ acres of gardens.

The Bandstand:

The Bandstand is perfect for small, intimate occasions or for photographs. Newly refurbished to its original Victorian elegance, it offers a picturesque snap-shot of a bygone era, with stunning views across the surrounding gardens and beyond to the horizon and the impressive landmarks of central London.

Extra Perks:
Free onsite parking for one vehicle (Bridal Car), plus disabled parking space.

All Conservatory bookings of 6 hours or more are offered the opportunity to reserve the Bandstand for photographs for up to 1 hour free of charge.
