The best way to capture the beauty of fall is to hop in the car and go for a drive – a long and winding road kind of drive. Colorado’s West Elk Loop Scenic Drive, Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway or the Olympic Peninsula in Seattle should all do the trick.
A stay at the Ace Hotel in Portland is always a good idea. Fall in Portland is gorgeous with perfectly crisp days and cool nights. Grab a seat at the Stumptown shop and sip on one of their famous pour overs while you plan your romp around town.
A couple of tiny houses set in the woods of New Hampshire, Getaway House is easy to access from the Boston area. Settle in for a weekend of campfires, s’mores, starry skies and beautiful trees.
Cali based? A trip to Cambria is an awesome getaway mid-coast. Located just south of Big Sur, Cambria Beach Lodge sits right along Moonstone Beach. Hearst Castle is just up the road, making for a gorgeous day trip and history lesson.
One of the best things about fall is the start of oyster season (if you’re a traditionalist, oysters are best reserved for months with the letter R in the name). The Washington coast is plentiful with oysters this time of year, and a seat at the oyster bar at Bar Melusine in Seattle guarantees you’ll be throwing back oyster shooters and sparkling rosé in the sweetest atmosphere in town.
Dinner parties outdoors start coming to an end in the fall, so best to go out by hosting a dinner party with a bang. Haystack Rock in Oregon is a spot that’ll have your guests swooning over sunsets and autumnal skies.
Apple picking is a classic fall family fun activity. A lesser known apple picking destination, Julian is just an hour outside San Diego. Pair up your orchard trip at Calico Ranch or Apple Starr Orchards with a jaunt to one of the many nearby wineries. Not in California? Check with your local orchard for apple picking information.
Trot around the globe with the crew from First We Eat and go on an adventure of travel, cooking and photography. Think styling and photo workshop meets a trip with your soon-to-be-dearest-friends. What better time of year to hone in on your hobbies anyway?
Yellowstone Collective Retreat is a stunning go-to if you want to get away from the buzz of the city and soak up some crisp fall air, starry skies and fall foliage. Fall is a great time of year for fly fishing and horseback riding around these parts.
