A destination that perfectly marries the majesty of the outdoors with beautiful modern architecture and a storied past, Norway’s Juvet Hotel is an architect fanatic’s paradise as much as it is a nature haven. So, dust off the ole bucket list and start making plans for your next birthday adventure, because this is one for the books.

The Scoop
Located on a nineteenth century farmstead, the property sprawls across age-old boulders, and birch, aspen and pine trees. The owners here worked hard to restore the old farmhouse, keep the barn intact, and build modern and innovative additions to the landscape that frame the gorgeous surrounds. The grounds alone are prime bucket list material.

Snooze Worthy
The Juvet has a total of 35 beds on site, all split into different lodging types. Seven of the rooms are freestanding cubes on stilts, with glass walls and gorgeous views. There are also a couple of guesthouses known as the “birdhouses,” modern structures that are built right into the mountainside. And the rest are bedrooms in the old farmhouse and cabins in the mountains.

Farmhouse and Barn
The historic cornerstone of this property is the 1870s farmhouse, which has been restored to its exterior glory and now has a working kitchen and several guestrooms. The century-old barn has been turned into an event space, which is perfect if you’re thinking about getting a whole posse together for your birthday bash in the mountains.

Plan for the Seasons
As with all beautiful landscapes in Norway, you’ll certainly want to plan your bucket list-worthy trip in accordance with the seasons here. Winter at Juvet Hotel is pure white and prime season for skiing, snowshoeing, and simply taking in the snow-covered glory. The snow generally tapers off in spring and you can see this great territory starting to come back to life; this is a great time for rafting and canyoning. Summer is prime season for hanging on the river and hiking through the mountains. And of course, fall is the multi hued stunner around these parts, perfect for fishing, mountain biking, and deer hunting.

Whether you’re contemplating an adventure with a whole crew or an escape with your best bud for your next big birthday, adding Juvet to the bucket list is a must. Between the long summer days (read: 20+ hours of day light) and the majestic quality of the fjord, this might be your best bday celebration yet.
