If you’ve been a follower of TVR in the past, you’ve probably come to notice what suckers we are for a great inspirational wedding photo shoot. Never is that more true than when we see a photo session with two impeccably dressed people set up in a space that’s bright, airy, and has a character all its own. And this is exactly that kind of shoot.
A sky-high living wall, loads of natural light, and a gorgeous combination of wood, brick, and modern white textures make Colony House a real stunner. One of Anaheim’s best kept secrets, this venue is the kind of place that makes you want to become a professional event space flipper. Is that a thing? Maybe we should make that a thing! That would certainly make for a fun reality show. Seriously though, the indoor and outdoor spaces both shine here, with options to party in a loft, a courtyard, a modern craftsman style room, or at the adorable bar.
Photography maven Katie Pritchard filled us in on the story behind the shoot she did at Colony House in collaboration with Goodheart Designs. We’re loving the way they used a mix of modern and vintage elements, totally inline with the design of the space itself. Here’s a bit of what she had to say.

What were some of the highlights of your experiences at the venue?
As a photographer I was just looking for great photo spaces to shoot in for our editorial, but everything was clean and our team was so great at using their own experiences to make it a successful shoot. I think we all enjoyed the upstairs bar area and had fun imaging what a wedding would be like there.
What made the venue a great backdrop and setting for photos?
The venue was so open and spacious, and as a photographer I really loved all the natural light coming in through the windows. Besides the cool brick wall, everything was well thought-out with the layout; super cool cocktail hour area upstairs, check! Bar downstairs, check! Entry way and outdoor garden space, check! It's just a really cool space for any modern couple looking to get married.
Favorite existing design elements of the venue?
The concrete floor, brick accent wall and upstairs bar are all killer spots!
Did you do anything in the surrounding area while you were there?
Colony House is located in downtown Anaheim, which has the new Anaheim Packing House. Super great spot within walking distance to a huge space of food vendors (popsicles and speakeasys to name a few!) and also could be a good off-site photo location for portraits! The area itself is also well maintained and fits the ambiance of the modern venue.
Any inside tips?
The bride's hideaway getting ready room has a beautiful set up for photos - utilize it!
When a photographer loves the abundant natural light of a space, we just know it’s going to be an awesome backdrop for a real event. Beautiful lighting and simple, modern décor are really all you need to make a wedding venue come to life and this leather and indigo themed shoot gives a fab nod to what a stylish venue this place is when you add a few personal elements that make it feel like your own.
