- The Scene:
- Our property is located on Historic Hwy 101 in the funky beach town of Encinitas, California. Since the 1920's surfers and yogis from around the world have flocked to Encinitas to enjoy world-class surfing and visit the internationally recognized Self Realization Temple founded by Paramahansa Yogananda. The nearby Encinitas Ashram Center and Meditation Gardens were established by Paramahansa Yogananda during his lifetime, and have become a center of pilgrimage for thousands of people each year.
The yogi lifestyle and hippie attitude are what sets Encinitas apart from it's surrounding towns. There are open-air farmers markets, donation-based yoga classes, and luxury wellness spas all within short walking distance from our boutique motel. More of an art lover? Encinitas is home to numerous public art pieces that provide the perfect photo-op. A trip to Encinitas would not be complete if you didn't have a chance to hit the expansive white sand beaches just 2 blocks from our property. - Design:
- Surfhouse opened its doors in February 2017 after undergoing an expansive renovation. The renovation included taking the interior down to the studs and completely rebuilding the inside. Besides updating the exterior with a modern flat white stucco and custom wood finishes and sign, we added upper and lower decks for guests to use as outdoor hangout zones. In order to provide a durable and hardy surface for beachgoers, the floors are lined with tile that looks like sun-bleached wood. To create a fun, casual, and beachy vibe, we introduced sliding barn doors, white beach rock tile in the showers, retro-looking light green sinks, and open closet systems made with reclaimed wood and iron. The rooms are furnished with comfortable, contemporary, and beachy textiles, as well as artwork by legendary local artists including Andy Davis, Daniella Manini, and Billy Watts, and even (our mom) Elisabet Harth. Selecting and curating the decor was a family affair and incorporates iconic elements of the Encinitas beach culture with comfort and sophistication.
- Standout Venue Features:
- Aside from being beautifully furnished, Surfhouse also provides all the necessities to enjoy a day at the beach and a stunning outdoor hot water shower. For fun activities, we have complimentary beach cruiser bikes, access to a fleet of Firewire surfboards, boogie boards, and wetsuits.
- Extra Perks:
- Surfhouse has partnerships set up with a handful of other local business so that we can offer guests whatever it takes to complete the experience.
