- The Scene:
- Woodend is one of the few remaining grand old estates in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Designed by American architect John Russell Pope (Jefferson Memorial, National Gallery of Art, Constitution Hall), the Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Montgomery County Master Plan for Historic Preservation.
Woodend offers sweeping lawns, terraces, spacious, light-filled rooms, a 40-acre nature sanctuary with hiking trails to enjoy during breaks, and a gift/book shop. Weather Weather permitting, meetings, events and ceremonies can also be held outdoors.
With its classic Greek portico, beautiful grounds, and spacious, high-ceiling rooms, Woodend also provides a beautiful setting for weddings, rehearsal dinners, anniversary celebrations, holiday parties, and other celebrations such Bar and Bat Mitzvah.
The tented terrace, available April through November, can accommodate up to 170 seated guests. Outdoors, a wedding grove offers an enchanting backdrop for romantic ceremonies while the Great Hall with its staircase and balcony provides a warm and gracious alternative. - Design:
- The 40-acre property dates back to a 1699 colonial land grant. John Russell Pope, architect of the Jefferson Memorial and National Gallery of Art, designed the house in the late 1920's. With its architecture symmetry and geometric proportions, Woodend Mansion is an admired example of Georgian Revival. The Greek-style portico and entrances illustrate Pope's eclectic approach to the revival of classical forms. Inside, the large Palladian window over the first floor staircase, the French doors to the terrace, and the Georgian moldings enliven the Great Hall.
- Standout Venue Features:
- Grove surrounded by trees for ceremonies.
All meetings rooms with natural light.
Tent included in rental fee from April to November.
90 parking spots on-site.

Part of the rental fee for 8-hour events is considered a donation to the Audubon Naturalist Society and is tax-deductible.
