Whetstone Wine Cellars sits on two acres at the base of Atlas Peak Road surrounded by ancient Cedar and Oak trees in the heart of Napa Valley. Located minutes from world-class hotels and restaurants, luxury golf courses, and expansive bike trails, this property is a private haven that represents the perfect blend of old world charm and new world style.

The centerpiece of the property is a French-style chateau, designed by Hamden W. McIntyre and built in 1885 as part of Hedgeside Winery. McIntyre, an expert in gravity-flow winery design, is responsible for several other local wineries, including the impressive grandeur of Inglenook, Greystone, Trefethen, and Chateau Montelena — all Napa Valley landmarks that still endure. After fully restoring the historic stone distillery building, the tasting salon opened its doors once again in 2013.

The quality of Whetstone wines paired with the gorgeous Chateau setting, relaxed atmosphere, and attention to detail make for a truly unique Napa Valley getaway.

The scene:
Marked by ancient oaks, surrounded by stone walls, bridges, and stairways, the historic importance and romance of Whetstone Estate offers a spectacular setting for corporate gatherings, celebrations, and romantic weddings. From intimate gatherings of 12 guests to a gala for 150, this venue can be yours for the day. Private and picturesque, this enchanting property coupled with the talent of our preferred hospitality professionals will create a magical day or evening for your event.
Design:
The antique stone chateau features a ground level grand room and an upstairs 1950's cottage. The grand room lounge features an oversized rustic fireplace and sits below three industrial chic chandeliers and a vaulted mahogany ceiling. A small semi-enclosed mezzanine is located on the North end of the room overlooking the easily converted open floor plan that accommodates dancing and stand up receptions. The mezzanine makes way to the upstairs three bedroom - three bathroom cottage. Renovated in the 1950's, the space feels like you're truly taking a step back in time. An enclosed kitchen separates the two bedrooms located on the North and South side of the property. This is a perfect secluded area to use as a changing suite prior to your event.

With the two signature fireplaces roaring, the indoor area is a perfect place to cozy up in the winter or on a cool summer night. When the weather is just right, Whetstone offers a picturesque outdoor setting. The upper terrace sits above Whetstone Estate and offers fabulous views overlooking the Vaca Mountains. A vine-covered trellis encompassed in vintage Edison bistro lights sets the mood for a dreamy evening under the stars. Following the 19th century stone staircase, you will find the lower terrace, courtyard, and spacious lush lawn surrounded by beautiful Olive and Italian Cypress trees.
