The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas Est. 1996
The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas, East End, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
Essenza's long time bartender, Bert, claims to have invented the Bushwacker in the 1970s at a nearby St. Thomas resort. The now-famous Caribbean cocktail includes dark rum, Kahlua, creme de cacao, cream of coconut, milk and ice. A treat not to be missed!
Our most "Instagrammable" location is from the balcony off the Palazzo Building. Grab a photo and make your friends wish they were right there with you!
Iguanas are our favorite reptile guests. If you're up for it, join our naturalists as they feed the iguanas each day at 12:30pm.

- The Scene:
Bask in the generous spirit of the Caribbean from the moment you enter our terra-cotta tile roofed Grand Palazzo, a majestic open-air structure overlooking the expanse of beaches, waters and lush hills of the U.S. Virgin Islands. As you gaze out at the blue horizon, dotted with the gentle green hills of neighboring St. John, the soft sounds of steel pan drums tickle your ear. Reflexively, you relax and exhale, knowing you have landed in one unmistakably perfect destination, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas, a hotel able to seamlessly blend the unique culture of the Caribbean with penultimate luxury and refinement.
- Design:
- The traditional Caribbean Grand Palazzo Building is an ideal spot to welcome guests with a distinctive Caribbean feel, complemented by island staples such as steel pan music and rum punch. Perfect for pictures! Guest room decor is inspired by the ocean and surrounding islands, and luxuriously appointed in true Ritz-Carlton style. All guest rooms have balconies for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or evening cocktail while overlooking the lush mangroves, Great Bay and neighboring St. John.
- Standout Venue Features:
- Learn a new sport with complimentary access to unlimited watersports for exploring the turquoise waters of Great Bay, including stand up paddle boards, kayaks, windsurfers and Hobie Cats. Snorkel gear is great for checking out the sealife in the Bay's protected reefs. And don't miss the night snorkel, led by our trained naturalists from Jean-Michel Cousteau's Ambassadors of the Environment. A truly unforgettable experience!
Take in neighboring islands and secret snorkeling destinations on our own luxury catamaran. Sip on cocktails during a sunset sail, or visit the bluest Caribbean water on the British Virgin Island of Jost Van Dyke and enjoy a pain killer at the famous "Soggy Dollar Bar" for a distinctly Caribbean beach experience.
Savor the freshest local seafood, including Caribbean lobster, snapper, grouper and wahoo. The fresh fish arrives straight to the beach on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 4pm--a perfect photo opp!
