Chintz is back, baby. Well, let’s face it, it never really went away. And certainly not in the Cotswolds; the collection of chocolate-box villages scattered around the idyllic countryside between Cheltenham and Oxford. This old Georgian rectory is a fabulous example. Every design detail here is wonderfully vintage way, and you’ll feel like you’re staying in a very comfortable, very welcoming Laura Ashley museum. We love the floral drapes everywhere; in the sash windows, around the four-poster bed and behind the dresser doors. Tasselled ottomans and jacquard wallpaper keep up the motif in book-lined lounges and an array of grand sitting rooms. The stone spiral staircase is an architectural marvel, and worthy of an Instagram snap or two, and cooking is done proper country-style on the Aga, whose purr warms the kitchen. Head outside and the flora will follow you, with roses arching around the main door and a gorgeous country garden filled with fragrant flowers. It’s a view best enjoyed from the hot tub, which your host can organise.
