- The Scene:
Located in a former industrial precinct from the 1920s, The Grounds of Alexandria is a landmark coffee roastery, café and sustainable garden known for its abundance of fresh produce and hands-on experiences.
Opened in April 2012, the site which spans approximately an acre within the inner west city fringe suburb of Alexandria, hosts a coffee research and education facility, artisan bakery and a permaculture garden of heirloom vegetables, fragrant herbs, fresh fruit and flowers along with a small animal farm.
Remaining true to the sites heritage of organic industries, which originally included tanneries, wool washing factories and market gardens, The Grounds provides a wholesome, produce-driven menu that is fresh, fun and innovative.
- Standout Venue Features:
- We have a one of a kind venue which is suitable for every type of occassion. We have a lush, urban garden which is cared for by our resident horiculturalist, hand built water feature, indoor gardens and private dinning areas which tap into all of the senses.
- Food, Restaurants, Cafes:
- THE CAFE
Discover a dedication to quality and passion for produce in every aspect of The Cafe at The Grounds, from the finest coffee and the daily baked, ever changing menu of breads; to the abundant garden overflowing with fresh produce used daily in the seasonally driven menu. The menu is rustic, wholesome and focused on a paddock-to-plate philosophy. The Cafe food and drinks menu is bursting with fresh flavour, made with the finest quality ingredients and created with The Grounds own grown and locally sourced produce. The Cafe at The Grounds has team of chefs who constantly push the boundaries with ingredients, and reinvents the classics in order to deliver you perfect flavour combinations that will make you want to come back time and time again.
THE POTTING SHED
The Potting Shed is a place to meet, eat, drink, relax and chat your day and night away – where hanging plants, terracotta pots and timber beams meet brass, brick and iron. Where you can plant yourself down on the swing seat, bench or at the bar and feel like you are on your family’s porch. It’s a lively place where you can hoe into fresh, locally harvested produce, delivered by our shed-hands. The same hands that will deliver you good-natured banter, craft beers on tap, great tasting wines and unique cocktails.
The menu offers a number of cozy share options for groups, three course substantial meal choices for those wanting to make an evening of it and a fun selection of nibbles for people wanting a light after-work snack with their cocktails or a share jug amongst friends.
Our Cocktails and Shed Brews are famous around here, and are appropriately named for The Potting Shed. With favourites such as Toiler’s Tonic, with basil-infused Ketel One vodka, limoncella, lime, strawberry and ginger, it is a refreshing and yet a little bit naughty. Or if you are sharing with a few friends, try a jug of your favourites. The Verandah Sunset jug is just what the doctor ordered, with Rose/Cointreau/Vermouth sangria mix and just enough peach and orange for a vision which is sure to match any sunset.
We haven’t forgot the white and red wines either, with a plump list of Australian and international wines, you will be sure to find your next favourite on our list.
- Bars & Lounges:
- The bar at The Potting Shed gives you an overview of the entire area with access to our bartenders who can educate you on our drinks, food and more.
