Inside Scoop

To connect our guests with Tanah Gajah’s dramatic surroundings, our talented neighbours and their vibrant traditions in authentic, memorable ways, The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah creates an on-going array of meaningful programmes, so that you may learn to cook like a local, or eat like Balinese royalty. The diversity of these offerings extends from private access to our museum quality art collection in the company of a renowned expert, to painting your own future Balinese masterpiece; from romantic feasts in the rice paddies to guided treks in search of the Hindu goddess who protects this iconic emerald environment. We invite you to try any or all from this rotating collection of specialised Experiences.

Venue Features
Design:

The rustic chic five-hectare hotel in Ubud offers an authentic backdrop to one of Bali’s most dramatic performances, the Kecak dance – performed at the resort’s very own amphitheatre. Those seeking serenity and rejuvenation will find both in abundance at The Spa, nestled at one edge of the seemingly endless paddy fields. Experience breathtaking sunrises over Mount Agung – Bali’s highest and holiest mountain – and enjoy a leisurely stroll by the estate’s lotus pond, home to a family of white Dutch and black Australian swans.

Standout venue features:

Renowned Indonesian architect and interior designer Hendra Hadiprana created Tanah Gajah for his own family, who celebrated intimate weddings at the Balinese garden pavilion watched over by stone ganeshas, hosted colourful cocktail parties at The Bird Lounge alongside the private aviary, held dinners at The Restaurant facing iconic rice paddies and grander gatherings in the grassy amphitheatre surrounded tropical foliage.

The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah customises these special spaces across our beautifully landscaped gardens to distinguish your event for ten friends to two hundred.

Or enjoy our property exclusively as The Hadipranas did, including all gourmet meals, accommodations, spa treatments, private car service, Balinese dance and puppetry, plus inspiring activities from trekking through our rice paddies to cycling down Mount Batur, an ancient volcano.

Food Restaurants, Cafes, Bars, Lounges
This section provides insights into our diverse culinary and social offerings.
The Restaurant

It’s not purely the just-picked herbs and vegetables from the surrounding organic gardens that make the Asian and Western cuisine of The Restaurant exceptional. Executive Chef Khairudin ‘Dean’ Nor is driven by providing sumptuous luxury dining experiences, including local dishes such as nasi campur and ayam sambal tomat, made authentic by our own ‘Mama Bali’, Ibu Ni Myoman Adriani, who prepares local ‘bumbu’ spices daily. With a prior booking, come and participate in our Balinese cooking class to learn her secrets among a group of up to six guests. For the finest vistas over Tanah Gajah’s emerald paddies towards Bali’s sacred mountains, request a table along the photogenic dining room’s open periphery when booking.

The Pool Bar

Whether you choose to stay horizontal on the poolside, reclining on padded sun loungers or take shelter from the midday sun at one of the tables inside our thatched-roof pool house, the Chedi Club pool bar offers ultimate relaxation and luxury. During the day, you can dine from the Restaurant’s full menu of Western and Indonesian gourmet fare or enjoy afternoon tea. Come cocktail hour however, why not consider signature sips such as Tanah Gajah Purple Basil and, perhaps a Tambo premium cigar, handcrafted in Indonesia by Cuban rollers?

Celebration Locations
This section outlines the various spaces available within the venue for different types of events.
The Restaurant
Ease onto any seat in The Restaurant for equally optimal views of the Tengkulak rice paddies that surround as far as the eye can see. This iconic scenery is candlelit in the evenings, offering the most romantic of settings for private dinners for two.
Amphitheatre
We know of nowhere else on this mythical island like our private garden amphitheater, a natural, grassy sanctuary surrounded by tropical trees, hand-carved Balinese stone sculptures of elephants and the calming sound of trickling water from the adjacent infinity pool.
The Bale Dedari
Our Indonesian, pitched-roof gazebo, known locally as a bale, boasts views of Bali’s sacred Mount Agung in the distance while tropical foliage, vibrant flowers and serene waters envelope the open-air space to create privacy for intimate weddings and small social gatherings such as afternoon tea.
