The Pavilion, built in 1911, became a hub of social activity as one of Vancouver’s original dining, dancing and refreshment venues. From its humble beginnings as a concession stand, the Pavilion has since become one of Vancouver’s preeminent banqueting facilities, hosting many weddings, VIP events and civic functions including hosting Queen Elizabeth II during her 1959 visit to Vancouver. It is the oldest building in Stanley Park and an important heritage site listed on the Vancouver Heritage Register as a Class A heritage building. Architect Otto Moberg designed the Pavilion in a Swiss-chalet style using fieldstone and wood. Its old world charisma has been beautifully enhanced with recent renovations to restore it back to its original glory.
In the 1930’s, the Stanley Park Pavilion was known as the place to be seen among Vancouver locals. Dressed in their Sunday best, families would gather on the Pavilion lawn and socialize with friends, while watching performances at the popular bandstand, Malkin Bowl.
In 2015, the Pavilion underwent renovations to restore it to its former glory and continues to create unforgettable memories for guests and truly is one of Vancouver’s hidden gems.
