    Inside Scoop

Rancho Corral de Piedra was a 30,911-acre (125.09 km2) Mexican land grant in present day San Luis Obispo County, California consisting of two square leagues given in 1841 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to José María Villavicencio, with an extension of five square leagues given in 1846, by Governor Pio Pico. The grant was located between present day San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande, and bounded on the south by Arroyo Grande Creek. José María Teodoro Villavicencio (1800–1853), called for brevity Villa, was the second son of Rafael de Jesus Villavicencio (a soldier and member of the Portola expedition) and Maria Ildefonsa Berges. José María Villavicencio retired as captain of the militia at Monterey, and was administrator at Mission San Antonio and Mission San Fernando. Villavicencio married Rafaela Rodríguez the daughter of Sebastian Rodríguez grantee of Rancho Bolsa del Pajaro. His brother, Rafael Villavicencio was the grantee of Rancho San Geronimo. With the cession of California to the United States following the Mexican-American War, the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo provided that the land grants would be honored. As required by the Land Act of 1851, a claim for Rancho Corral de Piedra was filed with the Public Land Commission in 1852, and the grant was patented to José María Villavicencio in 1867. When José María Villavicencio died in 1853, he left the rancho to his seven children. In 1860, his widow Rafaela borrowed money from her brother Jacinto Rodriguez. In 1866, Rodríguez convinced the heirs to sell him the entire rancho, which he sold to dairymen George Steele and his brothers Edgar W., Isaac C., and Rensselaer E. Steele. In 1867, the heirs decided that the sale to Rodríguez was not legal, and sold six-sevenths of the rancho to George Alexander In current times… the ranch was re-purchased in 1973. At that time… the ranch had very little water, so we bought the ranch next to 3S (that had water) and we piped it in. Then about 13 or 14 years later we went ahead and had a well dug (on the property) and found a well that produced between 2 and 4 thousand gallons per minute… nowadays the ranch is currently being use as cattle & vegetable ranch.

    Venue Features
    The Scene:
The Spreafico Farms Barn is located in the heart of Edna Valley's wine country. The property is surrounded by rolling hills of vineyards with a beautiful backdrop of mountainous terrain. The barn on the property is a converted dairy barn that still has many historical aspects with the stanchions still standing in the barn as well as the hay fork and ladders used to stack up the hay.
    Design:
The barn is very clean inside, yet still has a very old and rustic feel to it. The barn has 3 different sections to it, with a large middle area with a bar, stage, and dance floor.
    Standout Venue Features:
The property contains a newly built bridal suite for getting ready, with some beautiful Spanish furniture that make for awesome photo opportunities. The ranch has two ceremony locations overlooking the rolling hills of Edna Valley. Hay bales can be set up for seating on top of the ceremony location for an additional charge. The barn is extremely unique and it will be very hard to find a barn that is so clean and well kept while still feeling historical and rustic.
    Extra Perks:
Bridal suite changing room, bathrooms, large BBQ pit for up 175 people, 2 large wooden tables, tables and chairs for up to 200, 4 wine barrels for cocktail tables, lighting, TV, 6 heaters, sound system.

    Spreafico Farms

7900 Orcutt Rd., San Luis Obispo, California, United States

Spreafico Farms, a rustic vineyard, country style estate established in the gracious rolling hills of San Luis Obispo offers visitors and party goers the quintessential slice of heaven. For miles, the surrounding Edna Valley hillside flirtatiously curves upwards into soft peaks and dips into low valleys, adding to the serenity and delicacy that can be found on the grounds below. Today, the land maintains itself year round as a family-owned vegetable and cattle homestead, however still tightly manicured to host extravagant weddings and large-scale events. The owners—Brandon and Jim—are extremely present, looking to aid in any way they can, have without a doubt created an atmosphere that exudes kindness, comfort and elegance.

There are many reasons why people have and will continue to choose Spreafico Farms as their wedding or event destination, however, for a bride and groom in particular, we can imagine being immediately drawn to the idea of choosing from not one but two outdoor ceremony locations. Both options overlook the Edna Valley hilltops with rare 360 degree panoramic views, yet differ slightly depending on the soon-to-be-newlywed’s preference. With almost omnipresent California sunshine year-round, a beautiful outdoor reception is almost guaranteed. No matter the case, each structure and location on the farm presents itself as a photographer's dream scenario.
