Venue Setting

Chef Neal Fraser and Amy Knoll Fraser’s flagship restaurant Redbird features Modern American cuisine that is refined yet approachable and highlights the city’s multitude of cultures from Fraser’s native city – Los Angeles. As a follow up to Grace and BLD, Fraser’s menu features seasonal plates ranging from snacks or “kickshaws” to entrees meant to be enjoyed by the whole table, complemented with desserts. An extensive cocktail menu by Tobin Shea features well-balanced, bespoke renditions of the classics and has garnered him awards such as Time Out’s Best Restaurant Bar Program in 2017. Wine Director Josh Wibbenmeyer’s wine list is well rounded with great finds from both established and emerging wine regions throughout the world and has received many awards including “Top 100 wine restaurants in the United States” by Wine Enthusiast and the “Best of Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator.

Located in downtown Los Angeles, Redbird is carved into one of the city’s most historic architectural gems, inside the former rectory building of Vibiana – the cathedral-turned-event-venue also owned and operated by the Frasers and their partners. Designer Robert Weimer and Amy Knoll Fraser created a dynamic space that pays homage to the cathedral next door and the existing timeless architecture by inserting simple modern forms to complement rather than overtake the feel of the rooms. The result is a warm and comfortable considered space.

Venue Features
Design:
Designer Robert Weimer and Owner/Operator Knoll Fraser created a dynamic space that pays homage to the cathedral next-door and the existing timeless architecture by inserting simple modern forms to complement rather than overtake the feel of the rooms. The result is a warm and comfortable considered space.

The design concept and intent of this project was to honor the historic architecture and design of the cathedral and rectory, dating back to 1876 and 1933 respectively, by leaving it as-is and letting it stand as a historical backdrop. This was achieved by inserting new, crisp, clean, modern elements within the existing building that appear to float without touching the existing architecture. The soffits, furniture and cabinetry appear to hover off the floor. The retractable awning structure stands completely proud of the courtyard walls. Projects by many contemporary Los Angeles-based artists, including Adam Silverman, Tanya Aguiñiga, Nancy Baker Cahill, Joe Davidson and Chris Corsmeier, are present throughout the space.

The design is American in inspiration and ethos; it lives within an old structure that has been outfitted with fresh new elements. This is parallel to Chef Neal Fraser’s menu, which takes classic dishes that reflect the multiculturalism of Los Angeles, and puts a new spin on them for brunch and dinner.
Standout Venue Features:
In addition to the main dining room and lounge, a wide-variety of unique private party rooms are available on multiple floors upstairs and also adjacent at Vibiana. Special events of all sizes are highly customizable during the day and evening, combining indoor and outdoor experiences, as each room has its own featured design highlights and history. Many of the rooms also have private open kitchens, great for cooking classes, cocktail demonstrations and first-hand interaction with Chef Neal Fraser and his team.

    Redbird

Redbird, East 2nd Street, Los Angeles, CA, United States

What do a former cathedral, a celebrated chef and a reinvented bloody Mary have in common? The multifaceted restaurant, Redbird, to call home. When Sunday rolls around, Redbird’s sophisticated ambiance dials brunch up a few notches. Located in Downtown Los Angeles, Redbird is owned by husband and wife Chef Neil Fraser and Amy Knoll Fraser and was built as an ode to Southern California.

Bottle up that relaxed luxury and brunch like a pro. Sunday morning at Redbird means DIY mimosas and a croque madame on the patio. Who's in?
