Venue Setting

Pikaia Lodge is being built on Santa Cruz Island in the centre of the Galapagos Archipelago. These islands belong to the Republic of Ecuador. The Galapagos and its surrounding marine reserve are Natural World Heritage sites of UNESCO. The marine reserve is one of the Seven Underwater Wonders of the world and the second largest protected marine reserve, after the great Australian Barrier Reef. Our 31 hectares of property and private wild giant tortoise reserve is located 450 meters above sea level in the transition zone between the sunny, arid savanna and the lush tropical mist forest of the volcanic highlands. Given its unique location it has a special microclimate: Warm and sunny with fresh breezes for most of the year, therefore, mosquito free!

During the cooler “Garua Season” our property is occasionally shrouded in mist. At this time, from July to November, the wild tortoises migrate from the arid zone up to Pikaia for grazing. The main building will be perched on a small plateau on top of two extinct volcanic craters and the rooms and villas will nestle amongst the slopes. This location offers one of the most spectacular view points in the Galapagos – a great scenic destination in itself. From all our public areas and rooms, our guests will enjoy expansive views of the pristine arid savanna of the adjacent Galapagos National Park by looking north, to extinct volcanic cones shrouded in mist, mountains covered with lush tropical cloud forests, and green pasture farms by looking to the south-west; along with a 270 degree view of the infinite Pacific Ocean with nearby islands as a backdrop.

Venue Features
The Scene:
Design:
With just 29 rooms, Pikaia Lodge will be an exclusive boutique experience. The first phase of operations will offer 14 rooms with the main lodge building, and the future expansion has been planned to have no impact on guests or operations.
As there is no native or ancestral architecture to model from, our designers opted for a modern contemporary luxury eco-lodge that would blend harmoniously with our unique crater topography. Under the direction of the Ecuadorian Architect Humberto "Coro" Plaza, one of Ecuador's leading Architect, together with his team of Architects: Roxana Castillo, Andres Cunto, Felipe Molina, Maria Jose Villacis, Filiberto Viteri, Alex Baquerizo, Juan Manuel Yela and Interior designer Maria Elena Frei-Shephard, they came to the right solutions with creativity, well applied eco-efficiency and sophisticated class, while offering a comfortable and cozy ambiance with "The evolution of the species" and the geological ages as a subtle artistic Decor theme.
Standout Venue Features:
The Pikaia Lodge concept is designed for the environmentally conscious, eco-adventure traveler, who seeks intimate contact with the unique natural heritage of the Galapagos along with all the comforts of a highly evolved lifestyle. No lack of privacy, rigid timetables, seasickness nor confined spaces of the typical yachts or cruises. As our Pikaia Lodge guest, you will enjoy active, quality guided land and marine day programs in small groups. At night you’ll rest in spacious and quiet accommodations. Due to its central location in the Archipelago, the Santa Cruz Island provided us with the perfect opportunity to develop our unique land based day tour concept, since the most interesting islands, secluded white sandy beaches and wildlife sites of the Galapagos National Park are nearby. All these can be reached within relatively short navigation times on board our large, comfortable, safe and stable oceangoing yacht Pikaia I. In fact, you will discover some of the finest beaches of the Galapagos near the lodge. Just by taking a stroll, you can come face to face with a wild giant tortoise. Pikaia Lodge has its own private Tortoise Reserve on the property.
Extra Perks:
Perks are offered case by case depending on guests needs.

Diary of A Girls Birthday Getaway - Entry #2

The uber-talented "birthday twins," Michaela & Marianna are back for another round of #birthdaybucketlist goodness. Are you following along on M & M's magical adventures with #babesinsouthamerica? Don't miss their Diary entry #1, when they were frolicking around Colombia.  This dynamic duo is really two halves of one beautiful whole, with Michaela being one heck of a talented travel writer and Marianna the crazy good photographer documenting and dancing their way down south. Waaaaay south.

So far south in fact, that these lucky ladies found themselves, quite on purpose, at one of our dream spots, the land of Darwin, the Galapagos! Think gorgeous, sparkling turquoise waters, perfect animal preserves & luxurious yet sustainable accommodations with a unique "birthday twin" stylish twist. When reaching said once-in-a-lifetime-if-you're-lucky locales, only the most beautiful and perfectly sustainable lodging will gosh-darn do. Pikaia Lodge is built on Santa Cruz Island in the centre of the Galapagos Archipelago. While these islands belong to the Republic of Ecuador, the Galapagos and surrounding marine reserve are Natural World Heritage sites of UNESCO.
