Inside Scoop

Established in 1991, the property is filled with history, from the Dairy Venue built by Italian prisoners of war in 1940, to the majestic Oak tree that once served as rest point for the Voortrekkers before crossing the flooded Juksei River. It sadly fell after a thunderstorm but pieces of the old trunk can still be seen memorialized in the garden.

Our beautiful venues, chapels and manicured gardens provide endless options for your ceremony. Our magnificent shady gardens allow for wonderful garden ceremonies in a variety of different locations and can be perfectly set up for the precise size of the function.

Design:

Inspired by an old stone altar in an Oak Forest which has seen the marriage of five generations of Halse children on their beautiful family farm, a charming Chapel was built in the grove of Cottonwood trees. Having grown up on horseback, it also seemed obvious to include a horse-drawn carriage. So began the vision, the “one-stop” wedding venue. Over the years, the unique Summerhouse was completed, followed by the bridal suites and the Guest House. The old chicken run in which old Mrs Harrison grew her prized orchids, then became the beautiful Conservatory.

Dairy & Dairy Chapel

The Dairy venue, built in 1940 by Italian prisoners of war, was an actual dairy with the feeding troughs still embedded in the floor. The intimate venue is perfect for smaller functions, with everything conveniently located together. Overlooking the feeding fields of the Nguni cows, that on occasion pops in to see the festivities, allows for perfect pictures with the sun setting in the background. The secret garden located across the Dairy Venue allows for the most exquisite couples photos.

Summerhouse & Conservatory

The Summerhouse and paired Conservatory Chapel is Oakfield Farms most popular venue. The Conservatory, was an old chicken run converted by Mrs Harrison in which she grew her priced orchids. The Summerhouse is surrounded by roses which are in full bloom during spring & summer, making way for Arum Lilies in late July/early August when the roses are pruned. Homestead & Forest Chapel

The Homestead, once called the “Lapa” is a venue tucked away in an indigenous forest. The Forest Chapel overlooks the pond that is fed with a natural spring bubbling up from the ground water. After the ceremony guests are lead through the forest to the Pavilion where canapés and drinks are enjoyed. Next to the Pavilion one can still see the remains of one of the areas tallest Oak trees, which met its end in a lightning storm after a terrible draught having stood tall for 120 years.
