Spanish for 'oak tree', Encino is a neighbourhood that marks the point where the urban sprawl of Los Angeles begins to slow down and the great Californian outdoors begins to reveal itself. At this home, the best way of getting an idea of this is to stand at the end of the garden and gaze out onto the leafy panorama of the surrounding San Fernando Valley. It's a gorgeous view and you're certainly not short of places from which to admire it — while swimming in the pool, lounging about on the covered terrace or even from the comfort of your bed once you draw back the curtains on the floor-to-ceiling windows. That's not to say the home is nothing more than a glorified vantage point, however. Inside, you'll find an interior dominated by cleansing whites and greys, which feels especially bright and inviting in the summer. When the weather turns cooler, there are fireplaces to ramp up the cosy factor. You might feel secluded here, but both Beverly Hills and Santa Monica are just over twenty minutes away in the car.
