- Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment is the largest privately owned arts facility in the United States. It is a constantly expanding creative center in Huntsville, Alabama, providing patrons with art, music, performances, food, and much more. Housed in an old cotton mill, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment has a rich history and a unique industrial feel. For five years and counting the Mill has supported a diverse creative community dedicated to the free expression of the arts in Huntsville, and we continue to grow, interact, and inspire. Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment features over 200 artists in 125 working studioss, where patrons are welcome to come in, talk with the artists, see them work, and purchase art. From painters to potters, textiles to cigar box guitar makers, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone. Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment provides a space for the community to experience art, interact with artists and explore new aspects of the creative realm. Located on the second floor of Lowe Mill is the Flying Monkey Arts, the first tenants of the Mill. The Flying Monkey is a collective of artists, performers, and other creative minds. Artists’ studios line the hall of the second floor featuring a variety of unique, handmade work of all different mediums. At the end of the hall is the Flying Monkey Theatre, an intimate theatre that provides music, plays, comedy, burlesque, swing dance, and more on any given weekend. There are also seven different art galleries throughout the building featuring new artists every two months. We host receptions for each artists along with artist talks, demonstrations, and luncheons. These galleries allow us to bring in out of town artists and display their art in a place that is accessible to the community. If you find something that you want to learn, or hone your particular craft, many of the artists at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment offer classes that are open to the public that teach anything from basic drawing to advanced painting and sculpting. Or, if you are interested in learning more about the arts, visit us for our artist exhibits that feature new artists on all three floors each month where the community is invited to meet and talk with the artists, or join us for our monthly art critiques. Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment is an incubator for small businesses, housing several throughout the building that are becoming staples in the Huntsville community, such as Happy Tummy, Tangled Strings, Vertical House Records, Karma Rags and more. We invite you to visit these fantastic businesses and explore the rest of the building at your leisure.
