What happens when you gather friends and strangers over a stunning live wood edge table for an unforgettable dinner party? We were invited to Lazy Bear, San Francisco’s finest outdoor-inspired restaurant, to meet the team that brings the vision to life and experience the party for ourselves. Lazy Bear is know as one of the best communal dining experiences in the nation, which we immersed ourselves in, but what you may not know is that you can also rent this venue exclusively.

- The Scene:
A personal greeting at the door welcomes you into the dinner party. Your guests are met with our seasonal house-punch followed by a cocktail hour with snacks, giving you the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
Hors d'oeuvres are followed by a seasonal multi-course tasting menu in the dining room. Served at communal tables, our chefs provide insightful introductions to each course, highlighting the inspirations, techniques and the amazing producers we’re lucky to work with. The best part? Your guests are encouraged to visit the entirely open kitchen throughout the event. The unique environment at Lazy Bear offers an opportunity for guests to experience a range of different tastes while thoroughly immersing themselves in the sociable atmosphere of our dinner party.
FLAVORS
Our food is modern American with flavors that are intrinsically delicious and familiar, with technical renderings of memorable dishes and whimsical references throughout. The concept for each dish is deeply-rooted in childhood food memories, while simultaneously highlighting the Bay Area.
Not to be out shined by the unique dining experience, the cuisine steals the show – with specially sourced produce, and products painstakingly researched and prepared in-house. Our chefs passionately capture ingredients at their ephemeral peak, including foraging daily in the Bay Area and diving for local seaweeds.
BEVERAGE PLAN
No two beverage plans are the same. We curate a beverage menu to complement your seasonal tasting menu with a selection of wine and beverages from local and international producers. Our Beverage Director will personally work with you to select wines and beverages; including cocktails, spirits, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea and dessert wine.
- Design:
Designed by Chef David Barzelay, our long communal dining tables are made from two cuts of the same American Elm tree. The dining room is framed by Shou Sugi Ban treated charcoal walls and crowned with a Manzanita branch installation. The playful yet sophisticated space references Barzelay’s love of mid-century Americana; finished with nostalgic touches, boy scout-era décor, rustic materials, vintage glassware, antique crystal decanters, and quirky throw-back decorations.
The infamous Scenes from Yosemite was commissioned by local artist, Amos, a line-drawer, muralist, and street peddler based in San Francisco. Amos created Scenes from Yosemite, a 22ft long mural which runs the length of the dining room with lines of gray and charcoal, and features a bear hidden amongst the scenery.
- Standout Venue Features:
Lazy Bear is in part a performance; our chefs introduce each course as it’s served to all the guests in the dining room. We encourage you to not only talk to each other but to talk to us! Walk right up to the kitchen to take photos and ask the chefs questions as they prepare the next course.
The beverage program is led by Beverage Director, Matt Dulle, and a team of certified sommeliers on hand to discuss flavor profiles, grapes, and regions with your guests personally. Matt is passionate about working with innovative producers and sourcing unique products from around the world. The program features rare spirits, small batch, and very allocated products including Champagne and whiskey bottled exclusively for Lazy Bear. The bar program is led by Bar Director, Nicolas Torres and his team of world competitive bartenders who can match cocktails based on personal preferences or create craft cocktails to suit individual tastes. Nicolas favors transparent producers evident in his program which highlights both wild and farmed local produce alongside rare, unique, and small-batch spirits.
