Design:

Although the building the Kimpton Palladian Hotel occupies had fallen into disrepair since it was opened as the Calhoun Hotel in 1910, it was clear it had all the makings for a storied second life — most notably the namesake Palladian windows that add to the hotel’s charm. Throughout the reinvented, edgy space, you’ll find nods to Seattle’s history: the raw wood harkens back to the timber industry, the shimmering accents are a reminder of the gold rush, nautical knot art recalls the all-important ports and the paintings that hang in the lobby feature some of the city’s favorite sons (like Bill Gates and Jimi Hendrix) reimagined as Napoleon-era heroes. The grandeur of the old — like original terrazzo flooring in the lobby — mixed with the new creates the kind of atmosphere that worldly travelers find irresistible.

Shaker + Spear

At our on-site restaurant, Shaker + Spear, the sea is calling, If you could distill the essence of the Pacific Northwest into one menu, it would be Shaker + Spear's, a celebration of all things coastal. With an ever-changing seasonally inspired menu, dishes like the whole snapper, Rainier beer steamed clams, and smoked salmon Caesar salad show off the best the local waterways have to offer — fitting given the restaurant’s location just blocks from Elliott Bay. It’s all created with ample amounts of care and creativity by celebrated chef Jy Donhaue, served in a visually striking setting where warm woods meet bold brass accents meet backlit bottles. The total package is cozy and inviting — seafood comfort food in a sleek atmosphere, if you will — exceptional enough to visit for a special occasion, welcoming enough to visit every day.

Pennyroyal Bar & Lounge

With the air of a social salon, Pennyroyal evokes European-style bar life. An interior of dark woods and exposed brick sets the table for the seasonally inspired cocktail program, which focuses on aged spirits, house-made infusions and sharable punches served in vintage glassware.

A selection of approachable yet refined bar snacks rounds out our beverage offerings, including the Taleggio Cheeseburger, Dungeness Crab & Sunchoke Dip, Greek Lamb Meatballs and Scotch Olives.
