The Scene:
Situated in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, Hotel Per La is inspired by the building in which it’s housed. Originally the Bank of Italy, a historic 12-story building on the corner of Olive and 7th Street, the space is a symbol of inclusion and accomplishment. Per La is an inspired name that translates to “For The” in Italian, a nod to the buildings storied beginning as a bank for the people. Its founder, Amadeo Giannini believed in the dignity and abilities of those commonly overlooked. In essence, our name means: “For Los Angeles.”
Design:
BUILDING Much of the building’s Neoclassical style, such as its Doric columns, ornate golden ceiling, and marble floors, have been preserved in Hotel Per La’s public spaces and incorporated alongside a new playful and approachable design to create a Wabi Sabi aesthetic reflective of the city’s eclectic mix of residents. Contemporary furnishings, airy linens, amorphic lighting, and pops of bright colors that feel distinctively LA are woven throughout the open spaces and flooded by California sunshine.
Standout Venue Features:
With sweeping views of the Downtown LA skyline, the large rooftop pool and sundeck with lush landscaping offers a beautiful oasis. The space is complete with a replica of The Orcus Mouth, the main sculpture seen in Il Parco dei Mostri in Lazio, Italy, featuring the transcribed words, “Missa omnium cogitationum” – any whispers made into the mouth will be heard by all – further signifying Hotel Per La's welcoming nature of inclusion to both travelers and locals alike.

With over 4,000 piece, the art program celebrates the buildings California, Italian and Mediterranean heritage including a modern style of photography and ephemera seen through a vintage lens. It allows the guest to explore contemporary visions of the world and of a city in ways that go beyond conventional tourist attractions and clichés. Vintage artworks have been sourced from antique stores throughout Italy and combined with various collections from Portraits de Villes and original photography from 4 different commissioned artists. As a result, each guest room’s art selection is unique, while at the same time communicating a consistent journey.

Per L’Ora restaurant & bar; located on the ground floor, Per L’Ora is a neighborhood classic, thoughtfully expressing LA culture and lifestyle through reimagined flavors of coastal Italy. With spirited, easy-going Italian light bites and dishes, Per L’Ora offers an inviting space to dine or hang out, evoking the comforting familiarity of feeling at home, while anchored in restaurant traditions of an old-school lobby, rendered with a modern twist. Paying tribute to the rich history, the main dining room sits underneath the stunning golden coffered Italianate 20-foot ceiling creating contrast with a contemporary design and a light color palate, with early-aughts inspired design elements favored by organic, elegant forms, such as white marble tabletops and botanical patterns.

Bar Clara; a more casual rooftop bar offering poolside drinks and a Mediterranean-inspired cuisine influenced by California and Southern Italian coastal flavors. Bar Clara is named after Claire Giannini, the first woman to serve on the board of the Bank of Italy that later became the Bank of America. Claire’s spirit broke barriers in social class and gender for her time. Her driven spirit of inclusivity is echoed throughout Bar Clara’s approach to hospitality – a playful and inviting experience that celebrates us all.

Café Ora; modeled after a famous Venetian coffeehouse, Café Ora is a welcoming space to enjoy coffee and discover LA-centric snacks. Local coffee from LAMILL complements a rotating selection from LAbased boutique roasters, alongside breakfast pastries, grab and go items, and a selection of homemade gelato bridging modern and classic flavor profiles of LA’s diverse cultures
