Although nobody knows the exact reason why there are so many Trulli houses in Puglia, one commonly floated explanation is they proliferated because they were easy to demolish. It's rather ironic, therefore, that properties such as this are now highly coveted. You can see why. The white walls and cone-shaped roofs feel cool and airy, as well as charmingly rustic. In design terms, they also act as a blank canvas against which colourful furnishings or more modern additions pop off. And what could be more modern than a huge oval-shaped swimming pool in the middle of the outdoor space? It's surrounded by loungers arranged underneath parasols, so you can enjoy the rural tranquillity in the shade while you dry off after a dip. When you want to see a bit more of this picturesque region, the town of Alberobello takes just over ten minutes to reach in the car, while the coastal village of Torre Canne is a forty-minute drive.
