Hacienda De Teresa y Polignac Est. 2018
Gran Hacienda las Gracias, Los Arcos, San Carlos, Los Arcos, Morelos, Mexico
Emiliano Zapata, the Mexican revolutionary - known for his mustache, large hat, and fight to return the land to the people that work it - is the subject of the hacienda's most known legend. According to the stories, he was rescued from a sugar cane plantation where he was found wounded by the hacienda's owner, Ignacio de la Torre. Inconveniently, Ignacio was the son-in-law of then President of Mexico, Porfirio Díaz, who Zapata was fighting against. After nursing him to health, the two men began a torrid romance. Ignacio promised to spare Zapata's life and the revolutionary promised to spare the hacienda. That is why the hacienda remains one of the best preserved, from its original configuration, in Mexico.
Ignacio's sister Susana married Maxence de Polignac, a french nobleman whose grandson would become Prince Rainier III of Monaco and marry Grace Kelley. The reigning prince and the American movie star visited the hacienda in the late XXth century.
