Venue Setting

The setting is magical. So much so that almost a century ago it was reserved, exclusively, for Kenya’s colonial Governors. Governors’ Camp nestles in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, it’s waters teeming with bird-life, hippos and crocodiles, in the heart of Kenya's Masai Mara National Reserve.

Some of the 37 tents line the riverbank, tucked into the forest they enjoy uninterrupted views over the Mara River, others have views across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara. Created in 1972 Governors’ Camp set new standards in luxury for a tented camp. Today it’s still Africa’s best.

Everything is under canvas, all tents have en-suit bathrooms with hot and cold running water and flushing toilets. There is a bar tent with deck overlooking the Mara River and dinning tent with views over the plains.

Governors Camp has just been awarded a Silver Eco Rating from Eco-Tourism Kenya due to our sustainable tourism practices in place in camp.

Governors' Camp has 37 luxury tents and is located right in the heart of the best game viewing area of the Masai Mara.The entire camp is under canvas with all of the comforts of a luxury hotel. The tents are big, bright and allow in lots of natural light. All tents have verandahs, some with views across the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara, others look over the banks of the meandering Mara River. All tents are classic safari style each with en-suite bathrooms and a private verandah.

The Justus suite is tucked into its own private bend of the Mara River, there are beautiful views across the river to the forest on the otherside and hippos and elephants are frequent visitors at night.

Venue Features
The Scene:
Our camp is located inside the Masai Mara National Reserve. Flying into the reserve and then driving to camp you are likely to see many wild animals from elephants to giraffes, lions to impalas. The camp itself is tucked into the forest overlooking the great Mara River. Hippos wallow in the banks of the river and crocodiles sun themselves on the banks. There are also views out across the plains of the Masai Mara. 
Design:
The camp is a luxury tented safari camp with 37 luxury ensuite tents. Some tents are tucked into the forest and overlook the Mara River others have sweeping views over the plains of the Mara River. 
Standout Venue Features:
Our camps are not fenced and this means the wildlife are regular visitors to camp. We often have elephant families moving through camp, giraffes feeding in the bushes and warthogs wandering around.
