Centrally located in the heart of Melbourne at the iconic Trades Hall building, Common Rooms is Melbourne Fringe’s year-round home for independent artists, workers and people who like to party. With two fully equipped rooms, exclusive hires and long licenses, we can help you put the FUN in function, no matter the shape or size. The Ballroom is a performance space & bar that holds up to 174 patrons standing or 114 seated theatre-style. Perfect for your big party, DJ night, music gig or cabaret show. The Lounge is a second, intimate salon-style space that holds up to 76 people and is ideal for smaller functions, workshops, meetings and rehearsals. The Lounge can be used as a break-out area or backstage green room at no extra cost, offering a combined total capacity of 250 patrons.

The Ballroom is a fully-equipped party space, with a professional bar and state-of-the-art sound system, projectors and all the lights you could dream of – and yes, that includes a mirror ball.

Just up the stairs is Fringe Common Rooms, with its sweeping high ceilings, polished wood floors, and a mirror ball that promises a good time! With a perfect mix of heritage and modern features, the Ballroom is a highly customisable space that offers room for you to do YOU, while having enough inbuild pizazz that a good time is guaranteed. The Ballroom is historical, it’s vivacious, and it’s effortlessly energetic.

At the back of the room sits the Lounge annex. With its gorgeous mid-century furniture and soft green walls, this room is a blast from the past. With west-facing windows offering attractive afternoon sunlight, and an army of retro lamps providing those late-night cozy vibes, the Lounge works excellently as a complement to bigger bashes in the Ballroom.
