Venue Features
The Scene:
Our buildings sit on 94 acres of lovely rolling hills surrounded by beautiful prairie land. Our main hall, Farwell Hall, is designed with the exterior characteristics of a country barn. The hall has a beautiful 1,500 square-foot maple dance floor with an inlaid walnut Moravian star in the center of the room, vaulted ceiling with hand-forged wrought-iron chandeliers, and a unique oak stairway leading to the balcony. We offer a restaurant quality kitchen, an outdoor porch overlooking an ample backyard, expansive grounds for setting up a tent or other outdoor recreational activities, a visible playground for children plus many other striking features. Other facilities include our beautiful 1882 Plum Grove Chapel, listed on the national register of historic places, two rustic bunk houses, and the perfect setting for tent camping.

Folklore Village is a non profit organization that shares its rental use time with the many festivals, dances, and workshops that happen here yearly. About half of our year is open for rentals.

Folklore Village is a nationally recognized folk arts and culture center dedicated to enriching lives through time-honored traditions. Since 1968, thousands of people of all ages have come to Folklore Village to gather with friends, meet new people, to eat, dance, sing and play. Come study with a master fiddler… sing with a gospel choir… dance until midnight… learn to spin wool… feast on jambalaya… join a back porch jam session… plant prairie flowers… or picture yourself as a student in a real 1890 schoolhouse.
