As the house stands today, the mansion is arranged around two courtyards, separated by the hall range, aligned approximately east-west with the long axis of the hall range situated north-south, under the lee of the Downs.
The private walled garden produces fruits and flowers for the house and holds a very interesting specimen; one of the original greengage trees, introduced to the British Isles by the Gage family in 1724.
