We are a hidden little gem just outside of Edmonton, Ab. We neighbour Elk Island National Park and we are a short drive from the Ukrainine Center. Driving to our location, you see a vast landscape of farmland and are surprised by the dense forest on our land. We are also part of a Dark Sky perseve, creating a stunning star filled night sky!

The Scene:

Our Story

The 60 acre parcel of land on which Elk Island Retreat is located, has been our home since 1981. Incorporated in 1995, we slowly built Elk Island Retreat to what it is today with the help of our four sons. We started out with a few seasonal unserviced sites and then in 2000 erected our first tipis. Soon after that we built the 2 rustic trapper cabins with canvas walls and wood burning stoves and then put in the first 18 full service RV sites. In May of 2009 we opened the second RV park with another 18 full service sites. In 2018 we built 2 beautiful yurts that became operational in 2019 complete with power and heat. The original trapper cabins were revamped in 2019 with insulated walls and ceiling, windows installed, and power, and heat were added. In 2020 we added 2 “out-of-this-world” geodesic domes and the cozy Wood’s Cabin. Another 2 domes were added in 2021.

Building the campground from the ground up really has been a labor of love. We take pride in what we do and we hope it is obvious to our guests. Over the years we have hosted many Girl Guide and Boy Scout groups, church groups, family reunions, and a few weddings. In addition to the many groups Elk Island Retreat has hosted we have been pleased to have local visitors stay with us as well as guests from all over the world. Many of our guests have commented on the peacefulness and cleanliness they have experienced during their stay.

 

Design:
Our newest venture has been to provide a one of a kind wedding/event space. A side from our georgious natural setting of old growth trees, this space boasts a unique dome style venue tent with sting-lighting throughout, a custom in-house built Tulum inspired bar, in-house buillt custom arch with dried florals, artisan hand crafted macramé chandelier, in-house made dried floral cloud with disco balls, custom in-house built 2 toned concrete tables with flecks of mirror, hand woven ritan chairs, and outdoor tipi pole lounge area. We aspire to bring you a unique venue for your event filled with details curated by local and international artists, while still allowing you to add your own personal touches to the space.

In addition, our premium package inlcudes the use of geodomes that provide an intimate space for getting ready, and a romanitc setting for your honeymoon night.

Our space provides photographic opportunities that include the backdrop of a lush Alberta forest, or vast prairie skies. Guests can spend the night right on our own property in our glamping accomodations, bring a tent or RV, or stay in Sherwood Park at one of our preferred hotels at a discounted rate. Our land provides the beauty of nature to add to the magic of your day, while still having the back up amenities for inclement weather.
Our staff is here to help make your event as stress free as possbile. Our wonderful staff will take care of set up and clean up and bartending. With a manager onsite at all times, you can be at ease that we are there to help with unforeseen circumstances right away.

Accouterments: In house made crudites including zaatar infused  hummus & sundried tomato tzatziki,  locally sourced bread from Breadland Bakery,  a variety of organic crackers, assortment of pickles and seasonal organic fruits, a delightful  mix of organic dark and milk chocolate, locally baked cinnamon bread, and sweet treats from Duchess Bakery.

Garnished with seasonal edible flowers, sprout mix  from Angel Meadow Farms, organic jams, and locally sourced honey comb.

Eco friendly dinnerware made from naturally fallen palm leaves.

Water infused with citrus and herbs. Punch made with locally sourced juice and florals.

Bars & Lounges:
Tulum inspired bar outside of the tent with concrete counter top, commercial fridge, small chest freezer.
Outdoor lounge area under tipi poles, a large antique ritan couch, OMAM decor from artisans around the world, furs, rugs, pampas, moss, soft lighting.
