Casa Nuova
Venue Setting
Day trips to Siena, Arezzo and even Florence are on the cars at this charming villa. Or, simply flop down and explore the immediate area where the Monte Rufeno nature reserve is on your doorstep for walks past waterfalls and cycles through woodlands. Your closest town is the medieval village of San Casciano dei Bagni (a five-minute drive) with a handful of pizzerias and family-run restaurants overlooking the fields. The villa itself is a traditional Tuscan shade of terracotta, surrounded by a manicured lawn and set in twenty hectares of olive groves, woodland and pastures. You don’t have any neighbours here, so relaxing in the swimming pool, dining under the loggia and picnicking beneath the ancient olive trees can be done in complete privacy. Wicker seating under parasols provide the perfect spot for an aperitivo and the view from each terrace and patio is simply awe-inspiring. Inside is an ode to Italian country living with a fireplace in the living room and furnishings that are plush and deluxe yet feel as though they’ve been passed down for generations. Our favourite spot has to be the kitchen, like a picture of yesteryear as a fire still crackles in the open hearth and old stone sconces and archways are on display. This villa may have all the aesthetic of a rustic Tuscan dream, but rest assured each restored feature is up to the highest of 21st-century standards.
