From the rooms of the house there are breathtaking views over the park and woodland looking across to the deer park and lake in the valley. There has been a dwelling at Boconnoc since Domesday but the main house was built between the 16th and 18th century and bought by Governor Pitt of Madras in India in 1717 with the proceeds of the diamond that he bought back to the UK. The diamond now sits in the hilt of Napolean's sword in the Louvre in Paris. The house passed through five generations of Pitts, until Ann Pitt married Prime Minister Lord Grenville who abolished the slave trade. By marriage it was then passed to the current owners, the Fortescue Family who took on the project of restoring the house has been restored over the last 12 years and is now a magical location
