Venue Setting

In early 2010, Chris Madison and Damian Chaparro discussed their shared interest in creating a transition space for those interested in nature, adventure, self-development, alternative health, and results-oriented fitness. Excited by their common views of the world, and the potential transformative impact of such a project, the concept of Aro Hā was born. Located on the South Island of New Zealand, Aro Hā is just 40 minutes drive from Queenstown. Arriving at Queenstown’s International Airport (ZQN) is breathtakingly easy. A place where consecutive days are rarely alike, Queenstown is known as the adventure capital of the world. Aro Hā was born of the intention to create a facility that exemplifies a more resilient localised living solution. From Permaculture, to Passive Haus techniques, we’ve attempted to integrate best practices for solving the essentials of life. Our 8.4-hectare site (about 21 acres) sits on a sub-alpine terrace with expansive views of Lake Wakatipu. Here we’ve merged ancient traditions with modern technology. So, while crops are stored in cellars, refrigerated by the ambient temperature of the earth, the site is monitored by a state-of-the-art building management system, allowing efficient conversion of sun and water to energy. The vision is Zen inspired luxury, where the luxury comes from intelligent design, function of space, and exceptional programming, rather than opulence or excess. Never before have all these elements been combined to provide such a rich guest experience. The facility is designed for group interaction. Our ancestors shared spaces. They moved together. They ate together. They played together, and so do we.

Venue Features
The Scene:
We believe in unearthing the essentials of wellness and packaging those essentials into concise programs that are proven to yield exceptional results. Research continues to uncover the power of programs like ours. Whole foods vegetarian diet, exercise, meditation, and supportive relationships have now been shown to effect our bodies on a cellular level. A recent study by Dean Ornish, M.D. has shown the ability of healthy lifestyle choices to increase the length of telomeres. This was previously thought to be impossible, and directly impacts the aging process, and age related diseases like cancer and dementia. Taking these sorts of findings into account, our all-inclusive programs harness the collective wisdom of our Aro Ha Wellness Team to help you move toward optimum health. You will have no decisions to make, no business or family to attend to, just a step-by-step process that leaves you glowing. Core features of a Wellness Adventure Vinyasa Yoga Sub Alpine Hiking World Heritage Surroundings Mindfulness Meditation Practices Whole Foods Vegetarian Menu Functional Strength Training Healing Body Work Contrast Spa Therapy A Purpose Built Private Facility Zen Inspired Eco Accommodation Small Groups Local and International Guests Educators Additional programming can include hands on nutrition classes, morning kriya, permaculture experience, journaling, and select topical lectures. The experience is designed to create connection. Connection with self, and with others. From the accommodation, to the lounge, to dining, the facility is intimate and feels like you’re at home with friends. In addition to our Wellness Adventure programs we invite Guest Educators to lead specialised retreats, which are all supported by our team. Regardless of the program you choose, expect a powerful experience that reveals exceptional results.
