Maine in autumn takes on a different coastal vocabulary. The air smells of seaweed and smoke, hydrangeas turn copper, and the menu reads more like a coastal heirloom: lobster rolls, mussels, potato salad and blueberry pie. French’s Point hosts it all, equally refined and homey, stitched in Ralph Lauren wool and salt air.

We’re featuring Sarah and Graham’s celebration because it captures the hallmarks of a Maine autumn: heritage, comfort, and understated elegance. The details felt both native and novel: striped linens mirroring the Atlantic and a menu that honored Maine’s culinary roots with effortless savoir faire. It’s a wedding that captures why the coast remains one of the country’s most timeless settings for a fall gathering.

Photography and Details by Kate Thompson Weddings

Private, Expansive, Entirely Yours

Settled on a private peninsula in Stockton Springs, French’s Point represents the archetype of a Maine wedding: shingled architecture, sweeping ocean views, and enough room to host an entire weekend without ever leaving the property. The fourteen-acre estate extends across manicured lawns and bluffside terraces, anchored by three stately homes and a sailcloth tent designed for the season’s mix of fog, breeze, and sun. Sarah and Graham used each corner of the grounds with intention; the ceremony on the gazebo lawn, a welcome dinner along a linen-lined table facing the bay, and the party inside a pink-trim scalloped tent with Aperol carts and wildflower table runners by Stone Blossom.

The property’s scale is one of its greatest assets. Eight possible ceremony locations and fifteen gathering spaces across the entire estate allow couples to move fluidly from cocktail hours on the cobblestone terrace to dancing under canvas, or breakfast the next morning beside the firepit. Because French’s Point hosts only one wedding at a time, the estate functions as a private compound for family and friends. Guests can stay across the two main houses, walk to the beach at sunrise, or simply watch the tide shift over Penobscot Bay.

Equally distinct is the venue’s open-format approach. Rather than fixed menus or required vendors, couples assemble their own team of planners, caterers, and florists, creating events that reflect both taste and temperament.

The Estate in Practice

Sarah and Graham leaned into the coastal setting all weekend, beginning with a classic Maine lobster bake featuring a strawberry tower, printed “Lobster 101” cards at each place setting, and a trio of pies by Bar Harbor.

The ceremony took place on a raised white platform overlooking the Atlantic, framed by creeping hydrangeas climbing the altar. Guests faced the ocean as the couple exchanged vows with the breeze coming off the bay. Captured on film, the ceremony proved French’s Point’s best feature has always been its couples.

During cocktail hour, guests gathered around a floral-filled ice luge framing the raw bar, sipping signature spicy palomas and blueberry mojitos as the sun dropped over the bay. For dinner, Trillium Catering served a coastal-inspired menu that was all about refined comfort: Maine scallop crudo with pickled nectarine and lemon oil, burrata with heirloom tomatoes and basil, and a choice of roasted beef tenderloin or braised short ribs with creamy potatoes, parsnips, and horseradish crema. Later in the night, cocktails reappeared in custom paper cups printed with a portrait of the couple’s dog, Louie, and the line “Drinks on Louie.”

Autumn, Dressed in Pink and Sea Salt

French’s Point, in Sarah and Graham’s hands, became less a venue and more a composition of season, design, and detail. A sailcloth tent by the sea set the scene for layered textures, citrus accents, and vibrant florals, an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and refined. Planned by Nicole Mower Events and photographed by Kate Thompson Weddings, the weekend embodied what fall in Maine does best: turning Maine tradition into something deeply personal (and very pink). From a late-night pretzel and chicken finger bar to live music that carried out over the bay, it was a study in how color, comfort, and character can coexist and still be quintessentially coastal.

If your version of autumn involves sea air, good food, and a guest list of your favorite people, book French’s Point and see how Maine does the season best.

The American West runs on pure wanderlust: cattle drives, ski-town weekends, road trips, and wide-open landscapes that spellbind visitors into staying put. Lately, however, it has also reemerged as an intoxicatingly grand backdrop for vows that require an infinite horizon and the beauty of being planted in nature to celebrate with your guests for a weekend.

Lana and Josh chose La Joya Dulce for their wedding, trading city constraints for Steamboat Springs’ boundless, high-altitude real estate. The vibe was pure high-low luxury, effortlessly balancing the wild, untamed terrain with impeccably tailored hospitality. Guests toasted alongside resident ranch horses and cows before transitioning to a sunset-lit, open-air feast. The party kicked into an entirely different gear at dark, refusing to relent until the final wave of attendees boarded into shuttles bound for town.

The color story bloomed with citrus pastels that mirrored the high-country sunset, capturing the natural romance of the mountain air. Lana and Josh prioritized the sensory joy of their guests, creating a celebration held together by an effortless flow of thoughtful dining, vibrant music, and the easy camaraderie that only happens under a Colorado sky. At the heart of it all was La Joya Dulce, a property whose expansive footprint allowed the wedding to evolve throughout the day, each space offering its own atmosphere, perspective, and sense of occasion.

Venue: La Joya Dulce

High Country, High Standards

Perched above the Elk River Valley, La Joya Dulce occupies the sweet spot between ranch retreat and destination wedding venue. The property's ceremony site looks toward Sleeping Giant and the distant Flat Top Mountains, while expansive meadows, aspens, and rolling hills create the sort of scenery that makes guests instinctively reach for their cameras before they've even found their seats. The venue's name translates to "Sweet Jewel," an apt description for a property that feels simultaneously expansive and intimate, offering couples exclusive access to one of Steamboat Springs' most striking landscapes.

Why La Joya Dulce? Where Beauty Meets Bandwidth

The answer depends on whether you're planning a wedding or hosting one. Couples will appreciate the exclusive-use property, dedicated preparation suites, multiple event spaces, and the ability to accommodate everything from an intimate gathering or elopement to a 400-person celebration. Guests, meanwhile, benefit from the details that often go overlooked: easy access from Steamboat Springs, a straightforward airport connection, plenty of room to spread out, and enough variety throughout the property that the day never feels confined to a single setting.

Lana and Josh took full advantage of the ranch's versatility, beginning the day in dedicated preparation spaces before spreading guests across the patio, barn, pergola, ceremony lawn, and pavilion. Just nine miles from Steamboat Springs and roughly thirty minutes from the regional airport, it delivers the destination wedding experience people travel for without the transportation headaches that often accompany it. Couples get the mountains, their guests get the convenience, and everyone leaves with the feeling that they spent a weekend somewhere worth talking about.

The Frontier Between Dinner and Dancing

Ask ten guests what they remember most and you'll probably get ten different answers. Cocktail hour featured a roaming "moo-bile" bar staffed by the ranch's miniature Highland cows, while the menu skipped the expected wedding fare in favor of elk jalapeño sausage with lavender honey mustard, Cuban coffee lime shrimp, and a taco feast complete with Lupita's homemade hot sauces. The citrus palette felt especially at home against the surrounding landscape, and the band's energy kept the dance floor densely populated long after dinner plates had been cleared. For Lana, however, the most memorable moment arrived before any of that: stepping out to the ceremony site and seeing the vast landscape stretched out before her moments before exchanging vows. These are the moments that stick with us.

You Had to Be There

The guest list came from all over. The stories did not. By the end of the weekend, everyone seemed to be talking about the same handful of things: the scenery, the taco bar, the animals roaming nearby pastures, the hospitality, and the feeling that nowhere else would have suited this celebration quite as well. That's the luxury of a destination wedding. Not the travel, but the specificity. Lana and Josh found theirs at La Joya Dulce, high above the Elk River Valley, and built an unforgettable weekend around it.

65:T3345,

There are certain event designers whose work doesn’t just appear on Venue Report; it becomes part of our collective visual memory. Margot Laporte, of Tabloo Margot, is one of them. Known for her uncanny ability to turn simple natural backdrops into stage sets for romance, she has long been a fixture on our pages. Her events are layered with pastoral ease and studied elegance. Whether it’s a tent pitched in a hay field or a supper laid across a 100-year apple orcahrd, she has a way of coaxing grandeur out of the countryside.

This wedding is the ultimate harvest party inspo. And the best part? A wide-open field can become a venue in the right hands. Margot’s talent lies in showing how the simplest plots of land, often overlooked, can be elevated into settings worthy of a wedding or seasonal gathering. It's proof that great events don’t require a built structure, just vision!

For our Camp VR campaign, which celebrates lakeside escapes, nostalgic glamping, and the golden hour charm of open-air gatherings, her Fields of Gold wedding felt like a natural inclusion. It’s an event that captures the very essence of what fall celebrations can be: languid and light-filled, and grounded in nature. The celebration unfolded like a scene from a storybook, where golden fields met sweeping white canopies and tables bloomed with flowers that felt freshly gathered from the land itself.

As you plan your own autumnal gatherings, be it a fireside dinner, a wedding on the lake, or a backyard harvest supper, consider this a workshop on how to make the outdoors feel wildly free and exquisitely considered.

A White Tent, a Nearby Field, and Complete Creative Freedom

The idea for Fields of Gold began as a daydream. When a couple gave Tabloo Margot complete creative freedom for their wedding, she reached for a vision she had long imagined: a white tent set in the middle of a hay field, surrounded by tall golden grasses and open sky. After scouting the countryside, she found the perfect field just one kilometer from her headquarters. The farmer cleared the space for the tent and shaped a soft, winding pathway by hand, setting the stage for what would become one of her most memorable celebrations.

The concept struck such a chord that it inspired a future couple to request something similar the following September. By then, the hay had been harvested, so Laporte and her team decided to create their own spectacle by sewing an entire sunflower field. That celebration has since become a story of its own, one we’ve featured separately, but its roots trace back to this golden field.

A Floral Pivot, a Seasonal Menu, and Fieldside Refinement

In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Laporte often passed by the site to watch it shift from green to gold. Along the edges, wild daisies had begun to bloom. Originally, the plan was to line the tables with white peonies, but the late season and heat made that impossible. Inspired by what she saw growing naturally, she swapped the peonies for daisies and wove them into moss runners that stretched the length of the tables.

Dinner was entrusted to Niek Ducheyne, a Bruges-based caterer known for his inventive approach to seasonal ingredients. For a wedding set in the middle of a hay field on a hot day, the team crafted a light, balanced menu that felt both refined and grounded in its surroundings. Appetizers were served from haystacks and natural displays, setting a playful tone before guests sat down to supper beneath the tent.

Dishes included delicate dim sum with kohlrabi, carrot, and orange, mini spiced cakes with fresh herbs, flat cheese and herb toasts, and mussels brightened with citrus and wild garlic. The setting may have been pastoral, but the level of gastronomy rivaled that of a fine dining room.

Tent Drama, a Downpour, and a Perfect Recovery

Every great event has at least one behind-the-scenes moment guests never suspect. For Fields of Gold, it came an hour before the ceremony. The day was sweltering with no rain in the forecast, so Laporte chose an open stretch tent and adjusted its shape to suit her vision. Minutes later, a call from her parents warned of an approaching storm. Soon after, the skies opened. A tent pole fell onto the dance floor, water pooled between the canopies, and rain poured over the tables. Inside, only the couple and their children were rehearsing, unaware of the frenzy outside. Pregnant at the time, Laporte climbed onto a bar stool with a broom overhead as the team rallied to keep everything intact.

The storm passed as quickly as it arrived, replaced by blazing sun. Linens were swapped, tables reset, and forty-five minutes later, guests entered a golden field that looked entirely untouched. The ceremony unfolded in the open air, benches set among the hay. The only lingering concern that night was the threat of stray ashes, which Laporte diligently monitored with a smile.

A Wedding That Set the Standard for Outdoor Hosting

Fields of Gold embodies the spirit of Camp VR, where the landscape shapes the celebration and thoughtful design brings it to life. A nearby field became the foundation for an outdoor wedding defined by creative vision, practical ingenuity, and a deep sense of place. From the tented dinner to the daisy-lined tables and the unexpected rainstorm that made the story even better, this event shows how outdoor gatherings can be both elevated and personal.

Start with a sunflower field that didn’t exist. Add a gourmet dinner in the middle of farmland. Finish with a hot air balloon. That’s a Tabloo Margot gathering. Designing a wedding around a disappearing flower might sound like a logistical nightmare, but for Margot Laporte of Tabloo Margot, it was the starting point for something extraordinary. Her clients wanted to marry in a sunflower field; despite choosing a date well past peak bloom. Rather than compromise, Margot did what few event designers would dare: she convinced a local grower to collaborate, and planted 200,000 specially selected sunflower seeds to ensure a golden, late-season field.

Hidden within a towering cornfield and accessed by a winding path, the setting unfolded like a secret, culminating in a soaring tent, a live-fire gastronomic dinner by JML caterers, and an entrance by hot air balloon. As part of our Supper Club campaign, which celebrates the alchemy of gathering, food, and design, this event captures everything we look for: creativity with conviction, hospitality with imagination, and a table set not just for a meal, but for a moment worth remembering.

At Venue Report we live for dinner tables in creative venue spaces, and this one is as creative as they come.

Field of Dreams, Flickering Candlelight and a Corn Maze Entrance - Welcome to a Tabloo Margot Event

Founded by Margot Laporte, Tabloo Margot is an event studio defined by its refusal to follow formulas. Known for staging extraordinary dinners, weddings, and corporate gatherings in wholly unexpected settings, the studio blends design, logistics, and culinary collaboration to deliver experiences that feel as indulgent as they are imaginative. Clients don’t just get a beautiful event; they’re handed a version of their dream that’s been elevated, expanded, and executed with almost theatrical precision. Margot and her team are in the business of delight, and the lasting impression isn’t just the setting or the menu, but how completely guests feel transported, considered, and celebrated.

What truly sets this event apart is the interplay between raw nature and meticulous design. Guests arrived through a labyrinth of towering corn stalks, then emerged into a lush field of sunflowers: each bloom carefully timed to extend the season’s magic. The field’s circular pathway invited a slow unveiling, heightening anticipation before revealing the heart of the celebration: a strikingly elegant tent that rose gracefully above the blooms, its understated structure offering shelter without interrupting the natural beauty. Inside, every detail was thoughtfully curated to balance the rustic setting with refined comfort; from the flicker of candlelight reflecting off delicate glassware to the aroma of JML’s live-fire culinary artistry.

A Gourmet Feast, a Working Farm, and One Epic Entrance

Just a few miles from the Belgian coast, the menu was a nod to the sea: live food stations during cocktail hour served tuna grilled on the spot and finished with caviar, alongside a parade of refined seafood dishes. Guests, many of whom had flown in from abroad, sipped champagne while standing in the middle of a working farm. It was this balance of rural simplicity and gastronomic elegance that gave the evening its texture. The table may have been placed in a field, but nothing about the experience felt rustic.

And just when it seemed the night couldn’t get more cinematic, the bride and groom arrived by hot air balloon. It was an idea they’d floated early in the planning process, one Margot initially met with a smile and a reality check. But after weeks of coordinating multiple contingency plans and tracking the weather like a meteorologist, the balloon took flight gliding low over the tent, visible to cheering guests below, before landing just a street away. As the couple stepped into the celebration, the song from their save-the-date video, Stevie Wonder’s For Once in My Life, played softly in the background. Margot, who sang the lyrics as they lifted off, later called the moment surreal. It’s a word that fits the evening as a whole: improbable, precise, and wildly personal. Everything a gathering should be.

Inside Scoop: What Designer Margot Laporte Believes Every Dinner Party Needs

And because our Supper Club campaign is all about inspiring the way we gather; whether in fields or backyards, we asked Margot to share what makes a dinner party sing.

Her ideal setting? Under a tree, with lights strung from the branches, a simple linen tablecloth, and a table filled with beautifully dressed bowls meant for sharing. Her dream menu starts with a chilled glass of champagne and ends somewhere near a perfect plate of spaghetti alle vongole. But more than anything, what matters to her is the arrival. That first impression when a guest steps into a space and immediately senses that someone has thought through every last detail. Which, as it turns out, is the defining ingredient of every Tabloo Margot gathering.

This Is What It Looks Like When Gathering Becomes Art

At Venue Report, we champion gatherings that are thoughtful in concept and rich in detail; events that reflect a distinct point of view and a deep consideration for place, purpose, and people. Margot Laporte and her team at Tabloo Margot exemplify this ethos, transforming logistical challenges into creative opportunities and redefining what it means to host with imagination. From planting a custom sunflower field to orchestrating a fine dining experience in the middle of farmland, this celebration is a testament to the kind of innovation, beauty, and hospitality we love to share through our Supper Club campaign.

It's not about replicating a setting, but about rethinking what’s possible when people come together around a table.
