Looking back in reflection of 2018, our team did some pretty amazing, creative and downright cool things. From exploring the frozen wonderland of Wyoming to celebrating each team birthday in a very TVR way to checking out a lot of new venue, hotel and restaurant openings – we've been busy. Some moments called for an on-the-go snap, others called for a full-blown photoshoot and some just live in our memories.
We gathered up some of our favorite team moments of 2018 to share with you and as a beautiful reminder to ourselves of what we've accomplished in a very fast, very busy year. We look forward into 2019 with optimism, excitement and an eagerness for new adventures and gatherings because after all, these moments are all about connecting with those around you.

Each year we come up with a theme for our holiday party. This year's theme and design vision was dubbed, 'The Great Frontier,’ in the spirit of blazing the road less traveled. Our team arrived to our soiree in western-chic-meets-prairie-meets-dapper attire and were welcomed by a floor full of overgrown wild florals designed by Layered Vintage, symbolizing the overgrown trails that the team had bravely blazed through this year. When word got out that a new glampsite was opening near the Grand Canyon, our team knew we had to see what the fuss was about. Under Canvas invited us for a week of bonding, checking out the new property and, of course, exploring the Grand Canyon. It was a bucket list trip of a lifetime and we are happy to report that it is a must if you find yourself needing a trip to the desert. Read more about this story →
Our team has loved hard kombucha since its debut a couple years ago, so when we got a tip that the world’s first hard kombucha bar was opening in our neighborhood, we were all over it. We talked with the founders about their journey to open what was sure to be a sensation and get a first look into the laid back space. Our verdict? If you haven't already visited, do it, and be sure to try the mango habanero flavor. Read more about this story →
Our Co-Founder, Donny, and Media Design Manager, Nathan, have a big love for In-N-Out and McDonalds. This year we threw a joint birthday celebration and gave them the best of both worlds: a fast food-themed party. From the burger cake to the french fry floral arrangements, you may have an idea what our New Year's resolution will be.
We’ve had eyes on Seattle as a top destination of 2018 and even more so for 2019. When our long time industry friends at Pali Society invited us to experience their newest hotel installment in Seattle, we knew it was going to be a special place. Filled with thoughtful details and the warmest hospitality, it just might be our favorite way to spend a long weekend in that famously rainy town. Read more about this story →
Summer birthdays unite! Two of our own have summer birthdays, so the pros were called in to transform our office into a rainbow explosion of flowers. Jill of Layered Vintage created a floral wonderland where the walls, ceiling, tables and even floor were covered in a wild array of flowers. Read more about this story →
We cover a lot of San Diego openings by nature so when we were invited to experience Santa Monica’s newest restaurant and bar, it was an easy ‘yes.’ Once in the brand-new space, we learned about the meticulous attention to detail and story behind every unique, hand-selected piece of Elephanté. The food? Delicious. The drinks? Refreshing. The view? Unbeatable. Read more about this story →
A wintery trip out to Wyoming's Amangani may seem bone-chilling to some but for one TVR member, it was a week full of wild animal encounters, touring the Amangani grounds and a BTS look at their culinary program. Read more about this story →

The creatives at Mint Collective surprised our team with a pop-up experience that our team would be having. We didn’t know what we would be doing or experiencing, we were going in blind. The Mint team elevated our team retreat by setting up the dreamiest “crafternoon” (aka craft afternoon) workshop, complete with calligraphy on the cliffs and abstract art overlooking the ocean. Not sure if you’ve heard, but if there's something that gets our hearts thumping, it’s a new venue space. Especially one that is only an hour away. The Harper is a unique indoor-outdoor venue set in the heart of Costa Mesa. We headed up from San Diego for the grand opening event along with our media cohosts, 100 Layer Cake, to see this new romantic industrial spot for ourselves. Read more about this story →
Thanksgiving at The Venue Report never disappoints. This year one of our team’s favorite Italian restaurants opened a location just minutes from our office (dangerous, but we can’t complain about it). Our Thanksgiving feast consisted of a ton of pizza and quite a few carafes of wine.
For this year’s National Beer Day, we sat down with one of our favorite local breweries and event spaces, Booze Brothers. We got the inside scoop on all things beer, as well as the importance of incorporating the local community in their business. Read more about this story →
When our favorite (and only) former New Yorker has a birthday, there’s only one appropriate breakfast bash that comes to mind: a bagel bar. Complete with a bagel cake, the create-your-own-bar was a team effort and included lox, cream cheese, avocado and all the fixings you could imagine. Top it off with a strong coffee, and that is one tasty way to start your birthday.
Cirque du Soleil is known for out-of-this-world acrobatics, costumes and storylines, and when one of our editorial team members went to experience the VIP side of the show, it was quite the night out with friends to remember. From getting the royal treatment at the VIP lounge to experiencing the stunning show, the evening was one for the books.
