The café culture in some countries goes back centuries. Historically, cafés have been important venues for intellects, artists and friends to gather, write, work, read, talk and pass the time at – today's modern coffee culture is just as exciting! Over the course of a month I have brought you 2018's hottest new venue, hotel and restaurant openings. Finally, for the last installment of this series, I've gathered the hottest new coffee shop and cafe openings across the globe.

Melbourne is widely considered to be a haven for coffee, and the crew behind Bentwood in Fitzroy knows the drill. This gorgeous new space is backed by the guys that brought Melbs Tinker, Penta, MOB, and Inglewood Coffee.
The Drifter Hotel in New Orleans opened just this past year and the café inside is a time traveller’s dream. With all the feels of a 1950s motel, the espresso counter and chill zone make for a top-notch hang.
Thessaloniki is a haven for all-day coffee shops, yet the architectural detailing and light-filled setting at Ypsilon make this new Greek café stand out. Opened last August, the café offers coffee, small bites and cocktails in a space that aims to be known as an art space too.
Venice got a charming new café last fall and we’re loving the chilled-out beachy vibes. Great White whips up healthy foods like kale salads and fish tacos, served alongside banana smoothies and turmeric lattes.
Mexico City is home to plenty of cool cafés, but none are quite as sweet as Flora Caffé. Rose gold accents, pink banquettes, white marble tabletops and neon signage make the space as femme as it gets.
New Yorkers haven’t stopped talking about the gorgeous space at La Mercerie since it opened late last year. The café at Roman & Williams Guild is a serious stunner, with a très chic Parisian menu.
A gorgeous boutique hostel that opened in 2017, Long Story Short is also home to a great little café. The Cooking Bar serves Rusty Nails coffee, small bites, Moravian wines and craft beer from local micro-breweries.
Bangkok’s latest French patisserie opened just recently and is churning out the most beautiful pastries in a setting that stuns. With walls of glass and interiors perfectly styled from floor-to-ceiling, Maison Chatenet sits in the design district on Charoenkrung.
Austin’s newest Houndstooth Coffee space opened this month in East ATX. The third of its brand in-town, this sophisticated spot offers not just espresso but cocktails, beer and wine too.

Papillon’s beautiful bistro space opened in late December in Athens. The all-day dining spot is an easy place to land for a coffee, a lavish lunch or an evening pick-me-up.
From roasting and pop-ups to full-scale brick and mortar, the guys behind Push x Pull are making a name in the Portland coffee scene. They opened their cool, industrial 40-seater coffee shop in January in SE Portland’s Buckman neighborhood.
The Texan coffee gurus behind Halcyon added a San Marcos, California shop to their roster this year. As good for a morning latte as it is for an evening cocktail, this spot is a hot, hot, hot hangout.
Long Island City welcomed a new Black Star Bakery in the fall. The second outpost of the Williamsburg bakery and café makes an awesome study or meetup spot with great food and fab coffee.
West Hollywood’s The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker opened last January and with its quick success has announced a new addition to arrive just north of USC campus in the next few months. BBCM part two will open on a USC Village property with a sunny outdoor patio this spring.
This slick Venetian café is located inside an ancient monastery that’s recently been turned into a hostel. Caffe ai Crociferi serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon cocktails and bites.
Saltwater Coffee imports Little Marionette coffee all the way from Sydney to its NYC location. Opened in 2017, this little coffee shop is bringing not only Aussie coffee but Aussie coffee culture to the East Village.
Collingwood’s latest coffee hub, Acoffee in Melbourne is a big hit with the locals. The pristine industrial space opened last May and the bright interiors match the brightness of the coffee roasts.
Portland’s newest Nossa Coffee opened in the Central Eastside in December. The design is inspired by Guatemala, with greenery and sunlight throughout. Look to the menu for Latin American-inspired small plates served alongside fancy toasts and smoothies.
The October opening of Bella Vista’s Good Fella Coffee caught our eyes for its gorgeous fit-out, but kept our attention with the promise of delicious bagels served just outside of Sydney.

Don Francisco’s brings classic Cuban style coffee to a gorgeous space in DTLA. Head to the sprawling coffee shop for a Cortadito, their signature Havana Coconut Latte on ice, and an authentic Cubano sandwich.

Horizon Line opened in Des Moines last summer and brought with it a West Coast kind of vibe. The beautiful white and wooded space is an easy hang spot for getting work done or just grabbing a really, really good cup of locally roasted coffee.
This is not just another little coffee shop, y’all. It’s a buzz hub. And it's huge. Better Buzz in Hillcrest just opened its doors in January and it’s been pumping out rosewater lattes, orange-infused matchas, and turmeric lattes left and right since.
East Nashville’s Café Roze opened last summer to reveal a beautiful modern café space with marble tabletops, imperfect walls and long banquettes. The all-day menu includes excellent burgers and tasty salads.
Bauhaus design reigns supreme at the new Ace Hotel in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood. And the Stumptown coffee shop replicates that concept with a chic leather bar and decorative light installation. The coffee is always on-point, as we’ve come to expect at all Stumptown Coffee Roasters locations.
With two other Portland coffee shops under their belts, the team at Good Coffee is adding a third shop to their roster this year and it’s set to open in Slabtown this spring.
New to West Kennedy Boulevard in Tampa, Caffeine Roasters opened their second location this past fall and it’s a beaut. We dare you to try their signature Sparkling Coffee with sparkling lemonade and espresso.
The Upper East Side’s Hutch + Waldo is like a little slice of Australia in NYC. The gorgeous little space serves up delish sandwiches and salads, and the coffee program is bang-on, as the Aussies would say.
Santa Monica’s summer launch of Goodboybob Coffee had us doing a little happy dance to the tune of a lot of clinking coffee cups. The pretty little shop is an easy fave.

Culver City welcomed a new coffee bar this year with the opening of The Boy & The Bear. The space is so gorgeous you’ll want to spend hours ordering pour over after pour over.
Bandwagon is Port Macquarie’s newest café addition. Following a three-month reno project, the Aussie coffee shop and restaurant opened in November last year.
Sans Pere’s Broadway Market in London Fields opened its doors last fall and has been serving an all-day menu since. The space is a jewel, with tons of sunlight, marble and splashes of rosy pink.

When Werewolf coffee truck permanently parked itself in its new Chicago shop last year, we took notice. I mean come on guys, they dust their lattes with edible glitter.
Doughnuts and coffee. Coffee and doughnuts. Them be The Goods. This Carlsbad shop just opened this past fall and the artisan quality treats are on our favorites list. Plus, the space is just lovely.
Last summer, the patisserie and café at Sans Pere opened in Shoreditch. A multi-use space that combines homeware shop with an architectural studio and real estate agency, this café is one that stands out with its one-of-a-kind design.
One of our favorite spaces in LA, the Melrose Place Coffee for Sasquatch is a party for the eyes. This coffee joint opened last fall and has been pulling shots of espresso for the Melrose set since.
Orlando’s Lineage Coffee just opened its doors in December and the space is so sleek and modern you’ll want to spend your whole lunch sipping and sitting.
Bakersfield’s Café Smitten opened early last year with great coffee, great food and great ambience. What more could we ask for in a local café.

Honeybee Coffee opened its second brick and mortar location last year in West Knoxville. The community hub is always hoppin’ with energy, coffee and community.
Drift Coffee & Kitchen

North Carolina’s Drift Coffee made its second café debut with a Wilmington shop last year. Good coffee and simple food are at the core of what they do.
The stunning Yves Saint Laurent Museum opened in Marrakech late last year, with Café Le Studio inside. The 75-seater café serves French food in an atmosphere that’s as gorgeous as its iconic designer surrounds.

Downtown San Antonio’s latest coffee-centric addition came in the form of a Texas-sized coffee shop and cocktail bar that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Rosella Coffee is huge, with design chops and coffee cred, and community hub written all over its walls.
Santa Fe saw the opening of a new coffee shop called Sky Coffee in November. Owned by the guys behind Iconik, the space is a refurbished Southern Railway welders’ supply building. In its new life as a coffee shop, there’s a massive deck area, cozy interior and soon-to-join refurbished train caboose lounge.

The wide-open space at Form & Function in Boise opened in January with quite the coffee program line-up. Be sure to order an affogato if you make it out that way.
Zeteo Coffee’s latest outpost in Little Rock is a big hit with the locals. Particularly cool in their efforts to give back, this coffee shop donates a chunk of their sales to providing clean water for communities around the globe.
The quaint community of Palo Alto added a new café to its study hall lineup in January, with the opening of Baron Barista.
The community of Everett, Washington welcomed Narrative Coffee last fall in a space that dates back to 1921. Not only is the coffee shop gorgeous in all its historic glory, but the coffee program is spot-on.
Echo Park has no shortage of good coffee shops, but this new kid on the block is quickly becoming a neighborhood fave. Whether you’re there for the coffee or the matcha, the space is just gorgeous at Eightfold.
NYC just got a dog-friendly café and humans and their pets are freaking out about it. The new coffee shop is also part pet retail space and plans to host the occasional adoption day. But the main draw? You can bring your pup inside instead of leaving him out in the cold.
New Order Coffee offers on-demand roasting and brews upon request at their new flagship shop that opened last summer. With plans of opening two more cafes in the Detroit area, this is a crew to look out for.

With their local roastery, subscription services and barista academy, La Barba is Utah’s go-to for all things coffee. Their newest location in Gateway has been announced and is set to open this spring.
Traverse City gained a cool new coffee shop in November that aims to take coffee drinkers on a world tour of sipping. Mundos Roasting & Co. imports beans from all over the world and roasts them in-house.

From coffee truck to brick and mortar, Bump Coffee is making this Cardiff thing permanent. Known for their organic coffees and delicious empanadas, we have a feeling they’ll be sticking around foreva-eva.
San Clemente’s Café Hermosa is bringing fresh, light salads and tasty snacks to the coastal town. Opened last fall, this bright and cheerful place is an easy daily go-to.
If there are two things Austinites love besides music, it’s beer and coffee. The crew behind Cosmic Coffee Bar have combined the two in a South Austin garden setting that just opened in January.
Indonesia’s Serasa Coffeetaria is a blend of café and cafeteria, in a space that’s flooded with sunshine and good vibes. The comfort food driven menu opened its doors in Jakarta this past December.
Coava Coffee opened last year in Portland’s Sky3 apartment building downtown. The space is beautiful and convenient, and the meticulously sourced coffee is even better.
February brought a third location opening for Denver’s much-loved Huckleberry Roasters. The new shop is in the dairy block and offers a new menu highlight: Huckleberry coffee milkshakes with Frozen Matter ice cream.

Heartwood Coffee Roastery in Ohio has one pretty, white-clad café. The beautiful space opened in Hudson last summer and has been getting rave reviews ever since.
There are 30+ locations of La Colombe, but the new shop in La Jolla is currently at the top of our look-out list. Opening dates are TBD, but this crew is known for taking over some very cool spots and serving delicious brew.
Brewpoint Coffee of Illinois opened a massive roasting house and coffee shop in Elmhurst this year. The cool industrial facility is a hub for coffee education as well, offering classes to budding coffee connoisseurs.
Vermont is known for having some incredible small, artisanal producers and people who are well into perfecting their craft. Living up to that reputation, the team behind Carrier Roasting opened a coffee bar in Northland in January and it’s been packed ever since.
Utica’s latest and greatest coffee addition, Character Coffee opened late last year and brings vegan donuts, nitro brews and more to the Monday to Friday grind.
