Hey there, friends! Sarah here, TVR's resident Arizonan and Art Director. I recently ventured to my home state of Arizona for some family time, fun in the sun, but (most importantly)... Kendrick Lamar in concert. Haha! Like every true local, a reunion was much needed with some of my favorite spots and an introduction had to be made with new sites to be seen.

The rumors were true. Phoenix has some seriously cool, recently developed gathering locations that know how to beat the heat with impeccable style. This made my job easy and my body, hydrated. You heard me, at each stop I was handed or asked if a water would please me. In 110° heat, that simple gesture is everything. Keep scrolling for feels.

Cosanti
Paradise Valley, AZ

One of my favorite spots to explore and be inspired in Arizona is Cosanti located in Paradise Valley, AZ. This hidden oasis, surrounded by desert vegetation, was a passion project and former home to the late architect, Paolo Soleri. This creative space reminds me that no idea is too big or small. One dream could turn into a beautiful masterpiece.

To Note: Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided walking tour, guided group tours are by reservations only & you may even be able to see bronze wind bells being poured.

In 1965, Paolo Soleri and his wife Colly incorporated the Cosanti Foundation, a non-profit educational organization devoted to the support of Soleri's noted architectural and urban planning research.

Today, the primary areas of the Foundation's work are:
• Educating students, design professionals, urban planners, and the general public about Soleri's architectural concepts and philosophy.
• Ensuring the continuing construction of Arcosanti, according to the Arcology concept. This has been the main ongoing project of the Cosanti Foundation since 1970.
• Hosting educational and cultural conferences, as well as performing arts events, on a regular basis.

Cosanti truly knows how to beat the heat. No really, Paolo Soleri knew what he was getting himself into when he expanded his ranch home in true bricolage fashion. Many of the buildings on site are built below ground level and surrounded by mounds of earth to help moderate interior temperatures year round. You will also see apse (quarter spherical) structures. An apse is a passive solar energy collector running solely on how it displays itself to the ever-changing journey of the sun.

The last time I was in this building it was the Ritz-Carlton and I was sipping tea in their tea room. Seriously, this hotel has seen it all. Well, I guess you can say these chandeliers have seen it all. The Camby (named after Camelback Mountain) made a point to keep every chandelier left by the former Ritz and we are so glad they did.

The Camby's rooftop pool is not only perfect for you but the kids too! Enjoy an ice cold drink while your little one's splash around, play ping pong and other games underneath a covered area safe from the sun. I highly recommend trying a some of the Arizona local brews that they have on tap such as Four Peaks Sunbru or my personal favorite, Papago Orange Blossom.
