Everything’s coming up Ranunculus. With the superbloom excitement in full force in Southern California, you and your girlfriends can ditch the hillside crowds and go for a sunset wine tasting at the Carlsbad Ranch flower fields. During the annual Petal to Plate, April 4 through April 14, on select dates you can enjoy light bites, wine selections and live music among over 50 acres of these multi-colored beauties, also known as Persian Buttercups. The 11-day celebration of spring allows you to experience Carlsbad’s artistic side as the city’s very best restaurants, mixologists and resorts create unique specials, all inspired by the famous ‘rainbow of color.’
The Fine Print
Now in its third year, Petal to Plate is a call to spring for all of Carlsbad. Local restaurants, breweries and resorts come together to create floral-inspired specials to celebrate the famous Ranunculus bloom at the flower fields. Between April 4 and April 14, you can visit these businesses to check out their specials, or stop by the flower fields to experience a few of their on-site events like sunset wine tasting, flower yoga, arts and crafts, and more.
This year, look out for themed craft cocktails and delicious bites at Carlsbad favorites including Park 101, Chandler’s at Cape Rey Carlsbad, which is serving up a Rose Water Raindrop Cake, Campfire, and 20|Twenty Grill, pouring refreshing lavender fizz cocktails garnished with edible flowers. Resort specials include a Flower Fields massage at the Westin Carlsbad’s Ocean Pearl Spa and the 1000 Roses Facial at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
The Main Inspiration
If there’s any true sign that spring has arrived in San Diego, it’s the rainbow blooms of the Flower Fields of Carlsbad. For the past sixty years, the Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers have blossomed each spring in various shades of yellow, pink, red, purple and white. While you can visit the fields during the day, Petal to Plate came about as a way to experience the fields, and the city in general, in a way you haven’t before. This year, the fields will be open now until May 12, 9am to 6pm every day.
The Flowers After Hours
During your floral tour of Carlsbad, you and your girlfriends will want to reserve your seats for the Sunset Wine Tasting at the fields. This after-hours event is an intimate gathering among all of the blooming beauties during the idyllic golden hour. Sip on premium wines and snack on light bites as you and your closest unwind to relaxing live music from local artists. The evening includes five wine tastings, five bites and education by Advanced Sommelier Lamar Engel, from The Wine Militia. We won’t spoil the magic for you that comes with a cozy wine tasting at sunset while you’re surrounded by hundreds of thousands of multi-colored flowers but, yeah, it’s pretty magical.
