Photographer and writer, Marianna Jamadi takes us on a photo journal adventure of her recent group getaway to the Colorado Rockies.
Cradled in the San Juan Mountains of the Colorado Rockies lies a pristinely restored ghost town that is sure to do anything but spook you. Now home to Dunton Hot Springs, this exclusive resort is more than an escape from life’s everyday hustle. Catered to those who are craving reconnection to nature, themselves, or each other, Dunton is the perfect retreat that will have you forgetting where you last put your phone.
With your choice of hand-built cabins, each one unique from the others, and some built by the original miners themselves, it’s easy to admire the distinct character and history of these structures. Head to the saloon for family-style served meals, enjoy a cocktail at happy hour, or enjoy the impressive art collection in an adjoining room.
Perfect for a romantic getaway, family reunion, wedding, or girls weekend, Dunton caters to all occasions. On a recent group trip with Electrify Getaways, I got to take full advantage of the activities offered such as snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and my favorite– ice climbing on a waterfall right on property.
After a full day of indulging in the land around me, I was ready for the soak of my life. With natural hot springs steps from the cabins, I headed to the bathhouse– a gorgeous wooden structure built to enjoy the thermal springs indoors. As temperatures rose, I grew the courage to step outside into the snow to dip into the outdoor springs, directly next to the outdoor sauna. Surrounded by fresh snow, my body melted into the earth as the healing waters eased my body and the views renewed my eyes.
While I visited in winter to enjoy the activities of the season, I am eager to return during the summer when Dunton’s River Camp will be open for luxury glamping. Want to check out famed Telluride on your way in or out of Dunton Hot Springs? Head to sister property Dunton Town House.
