When two wedding photographers visit a venue, our ears perk up because they know what they are talking about! Lisa and Gary, the founders of the acclaimed photography company, The Wedding Artists Collective recently explored the Coral Sands Hotel on a trip to Harbour Island. This three-mile stretch of Caribbean perfection is a quick hour flight from Miami. The island is consistently named one of the top beaches in the world, yet has managed to be kept mostly secret from droves of tourists. If you desire a first-class tropical getaway, look no further. Coral Sands offers stunning ocean views, glorious sunsets and top-notch service that is truly a cut above, without losing its casual charm.
"The staff at Coral Sands were incredibly friendly and helpful. And the rooms were out-of-sight beautiful with a view to kill.
You can make your stay as relaxing or as adventurous as you'd like. The hotel will provide snorkeling gear, paddle boards, kayaks, etc. Or you can order a cocktail, take it down to the beach and relax under an umbrella. This is a very luxury-driven resort, so you can expect to be pampered." - Lisa + Gary of The Wedding Artists Collective
The Venue
Coral Sands sits on a gorgeous bluff right in the middle of Harbour Island’s stretch of pink (yes - pink!) coastline. The hotel recently underwent a full-scale refresh to expand its event spaces and update décor. It offers two exceptional dining options featuring all-star chefs and the freshest local fare they can find---ensuring a masterfully catered event that will delight your taste buds.
Pillow Talk
With 38 rooms of various sizes and price points, Coral Sands is a great option for you and your guests. All rooms are designed in traditional British Colonial style by famed interior decorator Barbara Hulanicki. And whether you choose a standard room or splurge on one of the private ocean-front cottages, you’ll enjoy simple, yet elegant surroundings, luxurious amenities, and world-class service.
Special Events + Group Gatherings
Coral Sands is a quintessential boutique hotel in one of the most beautiful locales in the world. And when you add over-the-top amazing service and a dedicated staff ready to plan and execute every detail of your dream day, it truly becomes the perfect place to host an unforgettable event.
The team at Coral Sands has a goal to make any and every special occasion a unique and memorable experience.
Imagine your toes in the pink sand, a soft breeze grazing your cheek, and the lull of gentle turquoise waves as you recite your wedding vows.
Inside Scoop
Harbour Island isn’t overrun by tourists (yet!), so your ceremony will maintain an intimate feel. Your post-nuptial celebration can continue with up to 150 guests at the resort’s open air beach bar. Watch the sunset while you sip vintages from the extensive wine list, enjoy a freshly-made feast, and dance the night away.
For rehearsal dinners, cocktail parties, or simply those who prefer a little less sand in their Louboutins, the resort garden is another great spot for smaller gatherings.
The Venue Mantra
"At Coral Sands, we LOVE to celebrate. We LIVE to celebrate. This is what life is all about. Let us help you mark special occasions and milestones with a wonderful celebration you and your guests will never forget. Birthdays, anniversaries, engagements…sweet 16 to sweet 60…we have Champagne and memories… just waiting to be uncorked."
The Food
"Always order the fish—it’s the freshest you’ll ever have." Lisa + Gary of The Wedding Artists Collective
A Stylish Setting
The beauty of Harbour Island provides a stunning natural backdrop for your event, which is why Coral Sands maintains a simpler overall design aesthetic. Take a nod from the resort by incorporating a mostly-muted palette with a few surprising pops of color on your table and in floral arrangements.
Around Town
Though the town may appear a little sleepy, Lisa and Gary tell us night life is alive and well on Harbour Island:
"If you’re looking to dance to a really great local DJ, word on the street is Daddy D’s is the place to go. It apparently doesn’t really get started until 1 a.m."
The 300-year-old island capital, Dunmore Town, is just a five-minute walk from Coral Sands. Lisa and Gary recommend renting a golf cart to explore the area’s shopping and dining options. Their favorites include:
- Queen Conch: “Get the conch salad.”
- Sip Sip: “They have very irregular hours, but some of the best food on the island can be had there.”
- Piggly Wiggly: “Pick up snacks and bottled water here.”
- Dilly Dally: “Great for souvenirs.”
Tips
"A heads up to economy travelers: because this is an island: everything has to be shipped in, which means food prices in particular can be pretty pricey. You can count on entrees at even the low-key spots to be $23-$28, and at the resorts, expect to pay in the neighborhood of $40 - $60. But it's worth every penny!" - Lisa + Gary of The Wedding Artists Collective
