We have to disclose our love for Laura before we even begin gushing about her spectacular workshops! As some of you may know, we were once event planners prior to our foray into The Venue Report world. She has penned many spectacular invitations, menus and signs for us, including many pieces at our founders wedding! To say we are fans of Laura Hooper Calligraphy is the understatement of the century. She is truly a ninja-like-genius with pen and ink and who doesn't want to learn from a master right?

What's even cooler about these callig workshops? Laura finds the most SPECTACULAR spaces to host them at. From hidden gems to brand new wide open spaces, she finds places that make our Venue Report hearts pitter patter. Drumroll please, because the recent workshop she hosted is at one of our favorite new venues, The Pipe Shop. Thank you to Simply Rose Photography for capturing the cool classroom details.

Laura Hooper Calligraphy is currently offering pointed-pen calligraphy workshops around the US & Canada! The workshop covers all the basics to get you started and then delves into Laura's full modern Copperplate alphabet.

Can’t make it to a workshop? Laura also offers a video tutorial that can be purchased along with a starter kit to learn calligraphy in the comfort of your own home, anywhere in the world!

"As Laura does not often travel to Canada for these workshops this was a real treat for us vancouverites, and many jumped at the opportunity to learn from her even some traveling from afar to participate. I teamed up with the creative Bespoke Decor Rentals to assist in transforming the space and creating a welcoming and comfortable space for our guests. " - The Pipe Shop

The Experience

The space was transformed into a beautiful classroom with floor length ivory linens and vintage mismatched chairs for the guests by Sweetheart Events and Bespoke Decor Rentals . Each guest was welcomed by a lemonade stand and popcorn bar of all flavours to enjoy during this three hour workshop.

The Venue Choice

"The venue was a bit of a last minute surprise as the Pipe Shop had only started hosting events and we absolutely fell in love with it and felt it offered a unique space with amble amounts of natural light for the workshop. Pipe Shop is a 1940 Shipyard building located in North Vancouver, BC that was recently retrofitted and seismically upgraded in 2009 but since then has sat empty."

"This space will be turning into a Museum honoring the history of the Shipyards and the many people that worked there in the next year but was granted permission to host events in the meantime (Yay!)." - Laura Hooper Calligraphy

"My favourite aspects of the Pipe Shop are the wood elements, the simplicity of the building, the rustic and heritage charm, the endless possibilities to transform the space and the floor to ceiling windows allowing rays of natural light in to brighten up the space." - Laura

The venue is located in the Shipbuilder’s Square just a few steps away from Lonsdale Quay and a gorgeous backdrop of Vancouver and the water. This venue is available to book until early 2016 and would be ideal for anyone looking for a great rustic charm building that allows for all group sizes.
