Contrary to the name, Perch boasts a rooftop bar that’s not just for the birds. Floating above downtown Los Angeles, Perch is a three-story restaurant and bar with a French vibe and gloriously unobstructed city views. Because, really, if there’s not enough space on the ground for a lush outdoor patio, why not build it in the sky?
A Rooftop Venue Perched high in the sky
Can you believe that's an actual venue on the top of this historic building?! It really doesn't get much cooler in our book. Once you step inside, you’ll find 30-foot ceilings in a main dining room that incorporates rich textiles, including tufted velvet wall panels and a leather-upholstered bar with brass studded detail, collections of classic and vintage oil paintings, and boldly patterned tile floors.
Correspondent Kristin Banta Eventsrecently planned a client’s 60th birthday party at Perch and utilized all three floors of the venue, incorporating both indoor and outdoor spaces so that guests could travel through multiple reveals.
Anniversary Dinner Party
As Kristin Banta Events says, “the ability to transform the space and the opportunity to take guests through numerous spaces,” were major selling factors in choosing this spot for the party venue. Of course, the rooftop and the view is a natural score for anyone looking to enjoy an unlikely vantage point in LA.
In putting together event ideas for the space, Kristin says, "the natural light and indoor/outdoor capabilities greatly influenced the flow of the celebration." Think evening cigar rollers on the patio, late night dessert lounge with a dry ice demo of ice cream making, a self-serve bourbon bar, and more little surprises in each area.
By incorporating the building’s history (built in the art deco period of the 1920s) and already vintage-oriented interior design, it was easy to transform the space to her client’s desires. They used the existing vintage furniture to create vignettes and filled in with some additional pieces like vintage luggage, old musical instruments, books, cameras and floral vessels to enhance the old world vibe and tell little snippets about the client.
Ideal for Private Events or a Night Out
With the main dining room located on the 15th floor of the Pershing Square Building, Perch sits atop creative office spaces in historic downtown LA. The rooftop is undeniably cozy, with outdoor fireplaces and multiple lounge zones, while also being reminiscent of New York’s famed rooftop party spots. It’s a great place for dinner or drinks with friends and the options for private events are aplenty.
The restaurant features a total of four event spaces and you have the option to mix and match spaces to work for your group size.
If you want to host an al fresco gathering, there are three options: the 5th Street Patio fits around 20 guests, the 16th Floor Rooftop maxes out at 80 for a seated reception or 150 for cocktails, and the main restaurant on the 15th floor is a combo of indoor/outdoor space that seats a total of 150 guests or 300 for a cocktail party. On the 13th floor, there’s also an indoor space with big industrial windows (so you still get that killer view!) that can seat up to 66 guests or handle a cocktail party of up to 90.
Inside Tips
Kristin worked closely with the Director of Sales at Perch, Anne Wilner, and raves about the experience. Kristin’s quick to offer that the venue was, “flexible, helpful and went the extra mile. They were always in the solution to blend form and function, while presenting incredible cuisine and creative cocktails.” Sounds like a dream team!
