Dreaming of a visually rugged, experientially adventurous but altogether luxurious place to spend your birthday? We’ve got just the place. Tierra Patagonia is set amidst the wildest Chilean Patagonia landscape with snowy peaks in the distance, rolling green plains and a stunning vista of Lake Sarmiento stretching vast before the lodge. If hiking through the Torres del Paine National Park, horseback riding with Patagonian cowboys, fly-fishing on the lake or kayaking through glaciers sounds like your ideal way to spend a birthday, definitely add this gorgeous destination to your bucket list.

Luxurious Seclusion
From both outside and in, Tierra Patagonia is an architectural delight with a low-profile undulating wooden exterior that naturally blends into the landscape. Every inch of this sustainably-minded hotel and spa has been carefully considered to fit into the surrounding territory and leave as minimal a footprint on the environment as possible—case in point, during construction they removed all the on-site vegetation, kept it alive, and replanted it around the hotel once the building was complete. Set upon an isolated location just outside the Torres del Paine National Park, this spectacular getaway is as remote as they come while still having all the comforts of a luxury hotel.

Ode to Nature
From end to end, the hotel interior is “an ode to nature” reflecting the spectacular surrounding panorama. Outfitted primarily in a warm, honey-colored local wood, there are celebrations of local Patagonian crafts, culture and history to be found throughout, including the sheepskin rugs, handmade blankets and fossil-printed textiles based on artifacts that have been unearthed within the area. With three levels of lodging ranging from exquisitely inviting “standard” rooms to two-story suites, each light-filled space offers a breathtaking view of the pampa (the low-lying grassland plain that encircles the hotel) and the distant mountain range.

Lounging in Style
Aside from the comfort of the private accommodations, Tierra Patagonia boasts several gorgeous community spaces from which to soak in the surrounding beauty with lounge chairs (we’re partial to the hanging woven basket chairs), a massive fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows. If it’s relaxation you’re after out here in the wilderness, head to the Uma Spa to enjoy the entirely glass-paneled sanctuary complete with heated indoor pool, steam room and outdoor hot tub. This is the perfect place from which to kick back and watch for wildlife on the plains. You can also take your pick from a variety of yoga classes, facials, body wraps, massages and alternative therapies.

With mountain biking, scenic voyages, specially tailored excursions like bird watching and fly-fishing for outdoor enthusiasts, tours of the local estancia life (nearby ranches) and plenty of water activities to choose from, you may want to go big and book an extended birthday stay.
