The Witchery by the Castle offers a range of opulent suites in Edinburgh, each one unique with its own special features. Lavishly furnished suites display gothic touches, with large oak beds and 4-posters, velvet-lined walls and flamboyant red and gold décor indicative of the style. There are separate seating areas and large bathrooms with free-standing silver baths. Each of The Witchery’s 9 suites is different, but walk-in dressing rooms, love seats and tapestries set the tone. Some rooms overlook Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, looking down towards Princes Street, or across to the old town. An indulgent breakfast hamper will be served in the room each morning or guests can choose to have a cooked breakfast served in the restaurant at no extra cost. The Witchery’s seductive glamour has caught the attention of The Times, The Telegraph and Condé Nast Traveller, and many celebrity fans have enjoyed its suites. The impressive restaurant also showcases fine Scottish dishes in similarly decadent surroundings.Booking.com

Pros (+) The Witchery is unique. You feel transported back in time, but with all mod cons. The check in staff were very welcoming & friendly. The restaurant staff were also very welcoming & professional. I felt confident in their ability. The food was delicious. This was our second stay, we stayed in The Turret Room which was amazing.
Cons (-) There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

Pros (+) Stunning, unique property. The Turret room furnishings truly made you feel like you had been taken back in time to another century. Loved feeling part of the hustle & bustle of The Royal Mile and the view beyond to the Firth of Forth & Fife was an unexpected additional treat. Being able to park & leave our car at their sister hotel, Prestonfield, was a huge bonus. The concierge staff there were ve...
Cons (-) For over £900 for a one night stay I thought there would have been some nice complementary wine & good bottled water in the room on arrival rather than just bottles of tap water. The Garden Restaurant is beautiful & atmospheric, no doubt about that, but we found the menu very limited unless you’re a fish or game lover. The breakfast was … ok, but none of the items tasted great. The best part about...

Pros (+) After glamping in a pod in the highlands, we booked The Witchery last minute--couple hours before we checked in--to pamper ourselves and rejuvenate before touring Edinburgh. The guardsman room was spacious with a large hall and three rooms and a bath. Great views outside the windows. The temperature was perfect--many places we stayed we had a hard time regulating this. Heated bathroom floors and a...
Cons (-) The mattress was a little too firm for my liking.

Sara, Oct 2024
Pros (+) Very nice breakfast in the extremely gothic and cozy dining room. Highly recommended!
Cons (-) The suites is situated right on the Royal Mile. We didn't know that there would be so many tourists there, so we got a bit surprised about the location being in the epicenter of all the tourist attractions. We could have done our research of course, but if you're looking for calm surroundings, maybe look elsewhere.

Pros (+) Beautiful historic suite in a beautiful historic location, but with great modern amenities, and helpful attentive staff. We went there for our anniversary, and loved it, and would recommend it to anyone. We stayed in the Armory suite, and we loved the busts of the alchemists, the pictures of the kings of Scotland, and the steel plate armour helmets you can pick up. Not sure they are really histori...
Cons (-) expensive, but there is no better place to stay in the old town of Edinburgh, so worth it.
