It’s a lovely old property with sweeping staircase and very centrally located.
Our room was incredibly hot and stuffy - broken window. Couldn’t have slept in it. Staff were very nice - we changed rooms for the first night. The property suffers from being old; no air conditioning; in need of repair and redecoration.
Room was excellent as was the food.
For senior citizens like ourselves the lack of a lift was a big problem. The car parking was inadequate.
It did not go well. (see below) We had stayed here before, and had a fabulous time, so were keen to return. This was a different experience. I still hope the hotel will reconsider its policy on a refund
We checked in and were told there was a large wedding party in the hotel, who who were already very noisy. The staff member apologised and assured us that the bar would only be open until 11.45pm and the disco would stop at midnight. Great location, pleasant public areas, good sense of history, friendly staff.
Lack of hanging space for outdoor coats in bedroom. No fridge/mini bar.
It is a beautiful hotel with lovely old traditional features
It needed some paint in certain areas
Staff were very friendly and understanding.
On arrival we discovered a funfair was in town and directly outside our hotel and room. Property is very dated and needs an essential tidy up. Main meal was very ordinary. Breakfast cold.
We often stay here and it's lovely; old fashioned, traditional... big comfy lounge with nice armchairs etc. Lovely dining room/restaurant. The superior and de-luxe rooms are lovely too and we always feel at home.
A slight (and regular, for me) niggle; as so often these days, some foods, especially at breakfast are just not hot enough. I had Eggs Florentine and the eggs were just lukewarm when they arrived. My wife's 'fry-up' was the same. All could have been hotter.
Location is great.
Breakfast and breakfast service were both poor The bar area sofas and soft furnishings were shabby and dirty. We have stayed a number of times and the facilities are in need of improvement now.
