This excellent hotel, the environment, view, food and staff member, Pasquale, made this hotel clearly the best on our two and a half weeks in Italy. Matera is an unusual and exceptional location, replete with incredible churches, ancient history, and a more recent historic past- and this hotel, built into one of its notorious caves, was beautifully appointed. MATERA WAS HOT, HOT, HOT. WOULD NEVER VISIT SOUTHERN ITALY AGAIN IN SUMMER. SCARY, TRIPLE DIGIT FARENHEIT DEATH VALLEY LIKE HEAT...AS BAD IF NOT WORSE THAN AMERICAN SW IN SUMMER. JUST PLAN AN EARLIER VISIT-IT'S WORTH THE TRIP OCTOBER-MAY, TOO HOT AFTER.Read more

The whole experience blew our minds. How unique to be able to stay in a cave where so much character and authenticity of years gone by had been retained and preserved. Breakfast was absolutely wonderful and what a fantastic array of food on offer. The location was breathtaking and views of the gorge and mountains opposite were amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
a one of a kind experience with lovely view over the ravine - a great heritage conservation project
would have preferred a division between the room and the toilet - There is a door between the bathroom and the rest of the cave but not for the toilet , could have installed the same for the toilet or even just a curtain would do
The rooms are all unique and it’s a truly individual experience. The staff were all amazing and so helpful and the property is beautiful.
I can honestly say that I would not change anything about the property or our stay.
Beautiful and curated experience, amazing food and hospitality from a hotel with a notable reconstruction and investment work in Matera
